Hi guys, long time no chat. I used to frequant this awsome website all the time but i have and still am living in London for the last 2 years (fishing sucks over here ) just wondering if the Hairtail were around this winter, out of all the fishing i have done in sydney game and esturay. the Hairtail is the only fish that i have wanteed to catch and have not. just wondering if its making a comeback or if it is still that myth that wifes started to punish thier fishahloic husbands look forward to seeing your replies Tommo

i got a 4kg bonie the other day on my trudty viva stick with 10lb line now that was FUN!

here's the catch that we kept

headed out with a fellow fishing friend today after bonnies and hat ever was busting up (fingers crossed), as they wernt on sat. got to flint and steel around 6 and trolled to west head for zilch. tryed a quick go for some squid for zilch. so trolled to around the front of the joey. ihad told my mate that i had trolled up rats here before, he didnt belive me. then my rod bent. moments later i had the smallest kingie i had ever seen boat side. ( approx 25cm) a couple more passes for nothing. we vent to the valliient and tryed to jog for some kingies no luck there. after 30 min or so we trolled some lures in the hope to find a stray tuna on the way to west reef. once ariving at west reef we spotted so very scarce salmon and huge pods of yakkas moving down this current line. never seen yakkas do that before. flicked so metals to no avail. then the salmon disappeared and a bronze appeared. so we throught out a live slimy for some fun. 2minutes later we where on 10 seconds later we were off them's the brakes. we trolled on in more towards sure where i scored a fat little salmon:) god there good sport. after that we tryed butting so slab baits out for mr shark as we saw him again, and to our great pleasure kingies decieded to smack themin stead. after berlinh hard we had thousadns of yakka's in the berley trail and kings diving through them. landed 3-4 rats and reefed a decent 1 as it took the bait in free spool after a couple of hours of this our hunger to get some bonnies grew. we headed of to some birds in the distance. will trolling so rapala's. then bang! and i was on and the beautful head shake of the bonito shaked througth my rod. we proceded to chase the school and land many bonies tailor and some form of makrel i think it was a frigate. then when we had just landed 2 more bonnies i notice 3-4 sharks in our berly trial. i wanted another shot since i hadnt tested my torium yet. jigged a nice 40 cm tailor and sent him out live. chhummed up and sure enought in about 5 mins line starting to move a bit quicker. set the drag and bam was on to a nice hammer head. the fight took about 5-10 mins more like 5 very happy with my purchase happy snap and the was released. then we moved on to chase bonnies again. after catchiong another tailor, my mate noticed another shark and said it was his turn. out went the tailor and bang he was on. 2 hammers landed of decent size and both released. we chased a few more bonnies and ;lost heaps and the called it a day was a great day lots of swell but no wind until the arvo had a great day and now am exhausted sorry for going on for so long but i was a long day

yeah it is fun i light gear, but today i lost something that was rather large. hook failure as in they didnt bite good enought. but i had just landed a 57cm kingie, and this thing waas running twice as fast and high and had alot of wieght i pegged it for a strippy or some kind of tune, would have been good to get a look at it oh yeah also caught another hull of bonnies largest would have been around 3 3.5kg's i'm guessing left scales at home 1 kingie 1 cobia and a crap load of tailor thou they wernt on the surface at all today and if they did show they quickly sank

well what can i say, i had intented on going out to west reef to try for some snapper and the likes, but as i was passing the northen side of lion island there was huge bird activity so i decieded to troll around the out side of the circle of boats for those bonnies. and boy was i right. with in minutes i had double hook up of 2 nice bonnies, after both where landed, which i shard when your just 1 guy playing with 8lb line. both lures went out again. for again double hook up. after thjis occured another couple of times i decieded i want to test my skills with 6 lb mono on my little cardif. landed ALOT of tailor, and i mean alot, biggest for the day was 1.2kg monster also got 1 2 kg salmon sitting right down the bottom, now that was fun on 6lb. all in all a great day huge amounts of fish caught, cant tell you numbers. kept 6 bonnie's largest 1 was around 2.5kg ( god there great sport on light tackle ) and 4 of the larger tailor for my grandma had a great day was very tired at the end of it and all i can say is that thank god for 4 strokes didnt even use 20 litres of fuel and my boat is racked and stacked at akuna bay cant wait to get out there tommorrow hope i find them schooling up again

Joe just do what i did with my jewy give all your nieghbours and work mates cuttlets and that way you can call the favours back later on nice fish joe i'm still waiting for my 2nd :0

it simply means that you can plain throught there if you have smallish boat that dosnt create that much wash, but cruisers and larger boats have to do a speed that they create no wash at. so if you own a trialer boat it would be safe to say that as long as you keep away from cottage point side you will be fine, but again use descretion if you feel your wake is large then slow down i always plain right through there as my boat makes less wash going flat out as it does doing 4 knots and have never been pulled up P.S if you hug the side with the boats and house this dos not apply

not sure if this is a suitable topic but i was just curious too what the average cost people pay for 300 yrds of fireline. as i only really shop at the 1 store due to access and there nice people if this is a bad topic for any reason i apolagies
