  1. Great day out, it was nice to meet some of the raiders. Shame about spot X and for that matter, y,z and every other spot in the harbour. Had plenty of fresh squid and Yakka's, but no result.

Congrats to the succesful Raiders. Spent a nice hour or so with Stumpy floating around Roseville ramp waiting to get the boats out. Was surprised not to see any ramp rage considering the delays and the couple who decided to pull their 5m Quinnie up on the ramp and leave it there for about 1/2 an hour while they waited for their trailer.

Thanks again Slinky and Little Slinky for an enjoyable (but fishless) day out.

Was great to see Stumpy's young fella get into it. Was talking to Slinky and wondering if there was any chance of a junior fisho's record section on the site, say under 16. We would have our first entry right there.

    Cheers

  2. Went to Tigers v Roosters on Sat night. Even though they lost, they looked pretty good, and played the first half with their reserve grade team +Hodgo, Fulton and Halatau. Saw some glimpses of 2005 in their attack. If someone could get a nailgun and attatch Benji's shoulders to his body, they might be in for a good year.

  3. Hey Brett,

Were you worried I might be planning to poison you so I didn't have so much competition at the Social?.... you and I will be pushing it to outfish Gemma anyway, particularly if she insists that 'she who catches the squid, fishes with the squid'

Going to have to back the drag off a bit for her next weekend though... she should have her new custom rod and I'd hate to see it either go overboard or have it busted on the gunwhale.... those kings were pulling her around a bit today!!.

    See you next weekend mate,

    Slinky

    Tony,

We probably have about 200kg on her, so I think we should be able to talk her out of the squid. Although, when it comes to the talking part, nobody comes close to her. I think every boat on the harbour knew she caught a king today, good on her.

    Cheers

  4. I cooked some of the fish we caught today, and I preferred the bait board prepared sample. I shallow fried it in flour and lemon and corriander herbs. It tasted ok, but not great. Any ideas on how to cook it better? Or should I just not bother and just keep chewing on them straight out of the water?

    Cheers

  5. Thanks again for the day Tony,

It was great to get my first couple of legal Kings, and to see Gemma have some success also. I was a bit cautious when the sashimi came out as I have always lived by the don't eat bait theory, but it was extremely good.

  6. I bpught a Saratoga rod once and I got what I paid for. First time it got snagged up, it snapped in half. Not sure about the line, but I wont go near any saratoga gear again.

  7. I have discussed this with Slinkymalinky on a few recent trips and have found mono fishing line may result in more captures. We are both fishing for squid with mono now and rarely drop them. Hope this helps

  8. Hi, I'm a new Raider (dad is helping me type). I'm 6 and I love Kingfish. I caught my first one today.

    Hey Gemma,

Great to see you showing up your Dad. Great work. I may need you to teach my Jessica how to fish.

I took her for a fish this morning and she caught 5 bream ranging from about 10cm to 15 cm.

  9. Still looking for that first king for my 6yo fisho daughter. After 2 weeks of incredible reports from North Head, looks like most of the Kingies were caught inside on Australia Day.... a fact we finally clued onto thanks mostly to Kiwi Dan. BrettP nailed a 63cm model and dropped another one next to the boat within 10 minutes of arriving at our (Kiwi's) spot, then things went quiet. Managed to lose an anchor for the first time in Sydney harbour.... that's what you get for being lazy and leaving the sand anchor on instead of swapping over to the reef pick, even though the sounder says you should!!

The brightest note is that since hooking up with BrettP from FishRaider we've together managed to get squidding worked out.... not just catching them consistently in the same old spots but now were trying new spots that fit 'our pattern' every time we go out and getting good hauls... Sydney Harbour, Pittwater... doesn't seem to matter where we go, the pattern remains pretty much the same and the squid follow. Can't be long till it pays off big time with better kingy and jewfish captures. Just wish my eldest daughter wasn't highly allergic to them so I could take some home for the plate!!

(oh, by the way.... 'the pattern' will henceforth be known as 'Pattern X' in honour of the spot/s where we're finding all the squid).

    Cheers, Slinky

Thanks for the day out. I was stoked to get my best kingy (63cm and undersize, but it is a start). Hope to be there to see the look on young jemma's face when she does get that first King. She was a pleasure to fish with yesterday and for a 6 year old girl to be out for 10 hrs, not catch a fish (other than squid, which has my vote for FOTM ) and not complain, in fact wanted to stay until she got a Kingfish is a credit to you and a great start to a fishing career.

    Cheers

  10. Just uploaded some pics into an album of my little fishing buddy (my eldest daughter doesn't mind fishing but realy thinks the whole thing is a bit smelly and dirty... my youngest has inherited my obsession). She wasn't happy about me canceling!

Hope my album works.. I'm still learning the ropes in Raider world.... anyone who has spent time on one of the other fishing sites may have seen a couple of these before... and if you have the latest Quintrex catalogue, you'll recognize the Bonito shot.

Here's what I think is a link to my album...

Nice pic's mate, It would be nice to see a king next to those.

  11. Hi raiders

I have had abit of luck catching squid around manly aquarium but was hoping to get a few more likely spots. I'll be fishing from a tinny so all spots are probably reachable.

Once again all advice is really appreciated.

    :1fishing1:

I have been fishing a couple of times recently with fellow raider Slinkymalinky and have found some spots just by looking for shoreline areas with weed and a bit of sand. Rocky shorelines also seem to be successful. Most of the shoreline in north harbour is pretty suitable. We have found our own spots on the last 2 trips and have caught squid each time.

  12. OK... so the one king was 45cm, the one snapper was about 25cm, but the Flathead was about 55 and the jew (only 55cm) was my first... yay. (and all thanks to BrettP, fellow raider and gun Jewie guide)

Had a nice day out in Pitwatter and the Hawkesbury on Sunday. For the second week running we managed to nail plenty of squid.... feels like its all finally staring to come together. Within 5 minutes of starting to tow livebaits BrettP nailed the little king and we thought we were in for a good day but about 1 1/2 hours more and apart from one squid getting monstered and one solid hookup on a mooring, no luck.

Finally went to Brett's suggested spot to get me a Jewie and I finally broke my duck, right where he said. And.... (I've always wanted to say this)... just like most other Jewfish ever caught, it was caught in Spot X!!

    Cheers, Slinky

Thanks for a great day out again, really enjoyed it . It is just unfortunate that I now have to kill you so that spot X is not revealed. By the way, if I do kill you, can I have your boat.

    Cheers

  15. Anyone who lives in or near North West Sydney want a day out on my 4.8m Quinnie chasing Kings this Friday?? I'd really like to find someone who'd like to come out regularly and doesn't mind early starts (all my mates who claim to be into fishing consider anything before a 9.00am start, extreme!!).

Definite preference given to anyone who knows where all the squid hang out in Sydney Harbour!! I also go out a bit with my 5yo daughter so if you have a little fishing buddy, happy to do occasional family trips

    PM me if you're interested

    g'Day

    Have sent PM

  16. Hi all,

Heading away for easter to Port Macquarie. I have never really fished there and will be mostly land based, but may hire a boat for a day. Can anybody give me any advice on where to start. Probably chasing bream and flathead on plastics. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers

  17. Went out to Watto's for the first time this afternoon. Watto, mrs Watto and Offtap in the store and they gave me heaps of advice on kings.

Thanks heaps for the help guys and I will definately be back. Cant wait to put some of your tips into practice.

    Cheers
