Have a 2005 Tohatsu 18hp motor and took it out for a spin today.
Got to the ramp first pull and it started but could not get the revs down. Sounded as if the idle was at 50% throttle or more.
Not feeling satisfied with this packed up and went home to sort this annoyance out.
Took the cowling off and everything looked in order and again started at home with full choke, no choke and still the same problem.
Any ideas to fix this idling problem?
Cheers

Haven't been out for a fish in a while due to school commitments.
What place's have been working in the Harbour?
You can send me a PM if you don't wish to disclose spots
Thanks in advance

Had a Shimano Starlo Stix gifted to me as a present just before christmas.
When rigging my line up i pulled some drag through the rod to give me some slack line and the rod tip snapped just below the 2nd runner from the top.
Is this breakage covered under warranty and if so how do i go about getting a new rod?
Cheers

I have a Daiwa Saltist 4500 and this is a very rugged reel for the rocks.
When looking at rods if your going to be moving alot around the rocks i would suggest going fibreglass for your first rod because it is alot more durable against dropping. Graphite does give more feel but..

I got mine spooled with 30lb Fins on a Silstar Powertip 8-12kg.
Great setup for spinning off the rocks

Nice solid kings there guys

They seem like another great invention in top water fishing.
Would love to give them a go when the water warms

Raiders,
I have had my Daiwa exceler 2000 for about 2 years now, and ive decided its time for an upgrade.
( Frigate mackeral smash and burn drag )
Willing to spend enough to get me something that will last and be manufactured to a higher quality
A few reels that have caught my attention are:
- Shimano Twin Power
- Shimano FireBlood
- Daiwa Sol
- Daiwa Luvias
- Daiwa Certate
Ive had a feel of some of these reels in a tackle store, and the build quality seems far superior to other lower end reels.
Seem to be falling towards the Sol/TwinPower because of the money factor .
Wondering if any of you Lure specialiasts have any views on these reels, or Pros and Cons
It will be matched to a Shimano 2-4kg.
Cheers Harry

If fishing with bait, the leader is not as important.
Depending on what species of fish, i would be running between 40cm-200cm of leader, which is then atached to the hook. You can also add a swivel in the middle if need be.
If lure fishing i would be using around a rod length of good mono leader or flurocarbon.
The best knot to attach leader to braid in my opinion is a double uni as its easy to tie.

Got bored at home and haven't been out for a fish lately so decided to go for a flick..
Went to my favourite iron cove spot and got ready
Got my favourite plastic rigged on (80mm Wriggler)
A quick flick to check if my plastic was swiming correctly and i thought i was snagged, but then the snag started moving Lifted up and hooked into a nice little flattie.
I walked a little further into a nice dropoff and bang was into a nice little bream, put up a good fight for his size
Had a few more casts then walked about 100m down and first flick, Felt a good tap, than bang! im on
After a nice little tussle up comes my first whiting from the area
Casted again in the same spot and hooked up again at the exact same spot, felt like a nice bream but up comes another larger whiting Never realised they were in this waterway.
Got abit chilly so decided to call it a day even though i was only out for around 40 minutes

Awesome boat
Lookin' forward to some reports of some nice fish

Frigate Mackeral,
I saw a school of 10 or so down in Iron Cove today so they are definatly still about.
-
Bloody amazing feed you have got yourselves there
-
Id be pleased if i caught that off a boat, but off the rocks its twice as good
Nice work

In my opinion i would go the Symetre, well built robust reels.
But if you are not using plastics i would go for the shimano Baitrunner 4500B( or one of the newer models) simply becasue of how tough they are and the baitrunner feature is very useful
