No reply yet from the epa,
I saw hundreds of bream between 10cm -35cm, Bream seemed to be the worst efected.
I didnt see as many good sized flatties but there were 1000's of tiny ones on the shoreline.
I only saw a few whiting one was massive, musta been over 45cm
there were no mullet i could see but one hell of a big eel

Getting some nice bream, mullet and blackfish on bread around the rowing club last week and on saturday mate.
Mate of myn caught a 25-30kg stingray on a live yakka today.
How the hell do you manage to catch those darn mullet!!!!
I have tried 100s of differnt ways and can never get any results, you must be magic!
Good to see the bay still firing, hopefully haing a plastics sesh in the coming days

Mate,
I live across the road from the hawthorne canal and my parents rang the EPA.
The councils came down the next morning and were sampling all the dead fish and the toxin that was released.
They said they would ring back once it was worked out what it was.
I think it was some old sump oil becasue when you picked the fish up the felt oily and smelt of sump oil.
Hope that helped

The saltist is a much bigger reel i have it i dont mind the weight.
the retreve speed is great for metals have caught bonny;s and tailor on it have yet to test it on some blues or spanish .
i brought this reel to replace an emblem pro reel which died after a big morning session 4 mac tunas av 8 kg spanied 10 kg but the 15 kg blugder travaly tore the gearing to shreds.
I use this reel for light work tailor schoolies etc as i have a dogfight and stella for the larger
but am tempted to give it a big work out in easter to see how it goes . Casts great
In the end i decided to go the saltist 4500 purely becasue it felt sturdier and more suited to the job of spinning. I plan on lading it up with 20lb braid with my silstar crystal blue rod.
Cant wait to try it on some tailor and kingies

Raiders,
Just recently got a spinning combo for my b'day ( silstar crystal blue, daiwa saltist 4500)
And wondering what braid you guys think would be best suited for this type of application.
I was thinking fins, only becasue i have it on my bream gear and its great.
Open to suggestions
Thanks Raiders

If you can get yours hands on a Silstar Power Tip surf rod 12ft they are the best i find. They are light, long and can handle decent size fish with ease.
Im not sure if they still make Silstar Power Tip Rods does any1 know if they do??????
They make silstar crystal blue but havent heard of powertip

Beautifully conditioned kingie
bet he tasted good

Nice hoodlum

Nice choice mate,
Im thinking of buying the 4500 saltist looks to be a great reel
Just one question, Why did you buy such a short rod for spinning off the rocks?
I was wondering about a rod and i thought 10ft6 was the right length..

HAHAHA
What a classic report good effort!

Nice kingie,
Shame about being left to clean the boat but atleast you got some of your mates into some fish.

Tasty bag of fish you hve scored!
I could never get bread to stay on the hook but im guessing now it was becasue it wasnt fresh,
Thanks for the tips on saying how to rig it

hello harry,
saltist 6500 and stardic 6000 are two different sizes. the daiwa 6500 sizes are for heavy duty fishing while the shimano 6000 sizes have much lower capacity and lighter. u can compare a saltist 4500 and stradic 8000 and either will do the job for spinning tailor, bonnies and kingies in sydney. most of my reels are daiwa but now i'm switching to shimano just because of the aftersale service. hope that helps. also what rod are u gonna use to match the reel?
cheers
bertrand
I will most likely be paring the reel to a silstar crystal blue 6-10kg 10ft6 or 8-12kg but im open to any suggestions on the rod.
Yeh i forgot that the sizing was different
Hopefully spooling it up with 20 or 30lb braid.
Thanks for your help

Solid king you got there top work

Hey Raiders,
Planning on getting a spinning rod for flicking metals at tailor, bonnies and kings.
not sure what reel to grab as they both look very good.
Advantages on the saltist is the high speed retrive but i think the stradic may be a little cheaper.
So raiders what are your opinions, has anyone used one before or does anyone have one and can give me a little insight?
Thanks
Harry
