  1. Priceless Lap it up now, cause as they grow all they want is their "Gameboys" My two boys do love the boat but not so much the fishing. They're speed deamons !! Picked up a pair of training skis at last weeks boat show so roll on spring and the warmer water. We're set for a great time on the water this year. Regards, Yellit.

    2 Stroke Owners

I recently went through a similar decision making process and passed up a few 2nd hand boats because they had the older style 2 stroke motors. I was keen on getting a 4 after running an 8 HP Yamaha on a 12' tinny. Smooth quiet and no fumes. After doing a bit more research and pestering boating suppliers I went for an ETEC 75 HP and am very impressed. Run in at the factory, No maintenance for 3 years, NO smoke, quiet, powerful yet economical. The new High pressure oil injected 2 strokes are great. SeeYa, James
  3. Thanks for the additional tips of where to find bait. I'de heard of the Barge but just didn't get that far down, next time. I don't think I was getting the jig down deep enough at cottage point so once again thanks. Right place - wrong depth. If only the tailor were choppers we would have been equally happy to slice them up, but they were about 45 - 50 cm. Oh well the boat's all washed down and gear stowed ready for the next outing, The weekend doesn't look all that great, but the high coming though on Monday should brighten things up.
  4. G'day, I've been surfing this site recently to get some ideas as to what's going on about the place as I'm a newby to trailer-boat fishing. Found some great articles and discussions, Thanks. I traded up from a 12' tinny, good for sheltered waters, and lakes to a Quintrex 480 Freedom Sport, just over a month ago, and have had it in the salty stuff twice a week since then, ( except for last week, ) Already clocked up 20 hours pottering around Pittwater ! I called up a mate yesterday to see if he was interested in a night session, and he was at the front door before I got a chance to hang up the phone. We put in at Akuna Bay at about 2:00pm and headed for the sand flats at the end of the bay for Bait. There place was teeming with Pacific Blue Eyes, ( Great little Aquarium fish ) and a few shoals of VERY timid mullet ) Do you think any would go near the bait trap ?? Not in this lifetime. Tried flicking unweighted dough at them and they ignored it. They even swam past the bread floating on the surface. The edge of the sandbank was a haven for baby reds, but no nothing useful. OK enough lounging about in the afternoon sunshine and on to Plan B.... We moved up to Dark Corner and flicked a few plastics towards shore, landing them near the oyster encrusted rocks. Nothing. Switched to squid bait and on came the reddies again ! A couple almost legal, and in such numbers that there should be some good fish about ... Next Year. Oh Yeah, and a few LeatherJackets Still after some livies we went around into Smith's Creek and stopped at Twilight Inlet. The sounder showed plenty of small fish about, but yes, you guested it they were reddies and small bream ! The closest I got to some decent bait was a squid that followed and finally latched on to a Twitching Crayfish, Unfortunately he was not hooked, so still no LB. As the sun had now set we moved off to Cottage Point and anchored infront of the boat club. We floated a couple of pillies out the back and Peter dropped in a squid bait whilst I tried a squid jig, casting over towards the lights from the wharf. In the next 2 hours we picked up 2 good sized Tailor, and a trevelly, with countless undersize bream and reddies. We moved out omoungst the mooring an only had one other run, but didn't connect. Ended up at Illawong Bay where nothing touched the baits. So much for my first night-time outing in the new boat chasing Jew and Hairtail !! Couldn't even catch the bait for them. We did have an enjoyable afternoon and the evening was not all that cold. The Tailor and Trevor will go nicely in a mild Thai Curry. Now I just want to go and do it all again tonight. Should have gone around to West Head for LB, oh well next time ... SeeYa on the water, James
