  1. Finally got the boat back in after a couple of hours worth of maintenance took a month Went over to the wedding cakes in the morning hoping there might be the odd kingy around... but after the first cast my worst fears were realised when the bait came back decimated by the jackets. Inside a couple of hours we were bagged out. Doing my bit to reduce their numbers for the fishraider community - mind you there were another 100 in the school that we left behind.
  2. That's great - i'll take one home next time - the bigger one was 30cm and looked quite tasty but i wanted to be sure - thanks!
  3. Hi I caught both these landbased on Friday, as well as a good-sized leathery which made dinner. I threw these back as I was a bit unsure... Did I do the right thing?
  4. I caught a just legal snapper on a green one, and have had plenty of nibbles but nothing substantial on the red ones. What really sux is those leatherjacket love biting them in half...

    Ballina

Hi mate I grew up in Ballina. It is technically an island as it's surrounded by water - bridge into town, then bridge out of town. There's fish everywhere. Plenty of flathead, whiting and bream around. But they can get some serious fish-kills after a lot of rain - I'm not sure what its like at the moment after the recent floods...
  6. Hi everyone, this is my first post but I have been enjoying reading and learning from all yours for a few months now! I put the boat in on Friday at Roseville. Drifted from Chinamans to Clontarf a few times and noticed it didn't take long for the leatherjacket to find and destroy my SP's. I then decided that "If you can't beat them, eat them". So I switched to some dirty re-frozen prawns leftover from a weeks ago and proceeded to land half a dozen in no time at all. In the middle of catching the leatherjacket I caught this nice little 31cm Bream - on one of those dodgy prawns! It was nice to come home with a bag of fish - and I was surprised at how tasty the leatherjacket are...
