  1. Good work mate, Hope you keep up the 50% strike rate off the beach.
  2. Hey guys, Lauched the boat at Roseville at 2 pm with Kingslayer to allow plenty of time to get squid for our jewie session on the 8.30 high tide later that night. Hit out first squid spot and had 4 in the tank after 10 mins but it was unpleasant in the wind and chop so we switched to the other side of the harbour. Caught another 8 squid in the next 30 mins. Most were caught on the Yozuri flash dancers in the 3.25 size. With enough bait for the session we decided to hit a few of the markers to try and get a quick king before the sun set but not even the pickers were interested in our live squid. After a quick feed and a coffee we headed into north harbour to try for a jew. Picked up 6 Port Jacksons and a couple of tailor in an hour so we moved to Quarintine to get away from them. Within 2 minutes we had hooked another one, we fished the tide change here but only managed to pick up more PJ's , tailor and undersize snapper. It was 10pm and I was ready to call it a night but the ever persistent Kingslayer suggest we try one more spot in middle harbour on the way back. We anchored up and within 5 mins my squid strip got hit and I knew it was not a PJ this time. Got him to the boat to see a nice little jew. He was 47cm. A few minutes later Daves rod buckled over and he brought another little jew into the boat. 10 months I think since his last one so there was a huge sense of releif to catch one. The man deserved it but I think they owe him a 20 kg specimen for the time put in.Over the next 45 minutes we caught 5 more jew , mostly just undersize and a few missed hits. All were caught on strips, heads and guts. With the live squid not getting a touch. It was a full moon and the middle of the run out tide. All up we caught 12 calamari, 11 Port jackson, 3 tailor, 6 undersize snapper, 7 jew and a few other odds and sods. We kept 1 jew and 2 squid. Great night on the harbour. Brett.
  3. Hey mate, I was wondering what happened to the squid in my freezer. Atleast it went to a good cause.
  4. No nicer place to fish than off the beach especially when you are catching jewies Congratulations on your first.
  5. How good are those watermelon power minnows, they catch everthing.
  6. Hey mc fishn, I tied my main line to a swivel then a trace of around 60cm with a snap swivel on the bottom to change my lead easily. I have a free running swivel on the trace which i tied 2 x 10/0 hooks to . It is basically a paternoster rig but the bait is free to run up and down on the trace. Don't know the weight of the sinker but the grapnel lead was about the size of my middle finger. It was pretty rough the other morning but the large star sinkers usually keep my bait out there.
  7. Cheers guys, Got alot of hints and tips from this site. I appreciate it. Just takes a long time to put all the pieces of the puzzle together.
  8. Hey guys, My name is Brett, Kingslayers fishing buddy. Promised I would not post till I caught a jewie which has been over a year now since I first started trying. Woke up at 2 this morning and hit the beach for the 4am high. Got down there and it was blowing a 20 knot nor easter and raining. Contemplated going straight back home but I was wide awake and I wanted a jew. My first cast ended up 50m down the beach so I tied on a grapnel sinker and a big squid head and launched it into the gutter. It was in the water for no more than 2 minutes before i was hit. Washed him up to see my first ever jewie. He was about 60cm . As promised I released my first jew out of respect . No photos of him as the Pacific ocean is the proud owner of my new digital camera , half my tackle and kingslayers rod after a session on the rocks. By 4.30 the weather was getting pretty foul and I was about to call it a morn when I was hit again. Washed him up and it was jewie no.2 .This one was 58 cm .Took him to my sisters place to get a pic and to slap my nephew with him for mocking me each time I came home without a jew. Both were caught right on the turn of high on squid left over from sundays mission on the harbour. One of the few that didnt get destroyed by leather jacket.
