    Hairtail

Was a few years back though, probably about 7 years i reckon was the last succesful hairy season. We used to catch them in the bay near the Akuna bay boat ramp. just launch turn right and head towards the end. Been a few times in the two years following that for nothing but a cold wet beanie. They pull quite hard (no fight, just pull). They were big back then, and tasty. But like everyone else has said before, there has been nary a report of any captured. You may hear about one or two a season now. I think you can still catch them in Japan.
  5. I hooked into a school of Rat kings at Molineaux round about 5-6 weeks ago. All around 62-65cm. they put up a hell of a fight on 2kg bream gear. Busted off countless times, lost a couple at the boat and only landed two. Seen them just round the heads near Kurnell a few weeks back but failedo hook up. Definitely around
  6. Hmmm... a bit sceptical about eating muddies from the georges, but hey for all i know those sold in the fish market could come from there. I've caught a few muddies in Dee why lagoon also, normally whilst prawning. Tears the cr@p out of your scoop net. Never eaten any though. just catch them, look at them for a while, let them go and wonder why i just wasted a 15 dollar scoop net.
  7. Me too Steve. Fish the bay quite often in winter/spring and the harbour in summer/autumn. Keep a lookout for a white fibreglass Centurion SPX480 with a gray cover. If the guy in there (with an akubra like hat) isn't pulling anything in, that'd be me. So come say hello to help me pass the time.
  8. Kikila, i am guessing you mean the lighthouse at Cape Solander? outside botany bay heads on the kurnell side?
  9. Me and a mate went out fishing the Bay today... for not much. Molineaux returned zip so went outside the heads as the seas weren't too bad. drifted the gravel patches (or so i think they are) for one pike and one big sweep. Sea was alot larger then we though, anf got a little seasick. So went back into Molineaux... Nada. Decided to give Towra a go for some flathead as we weren't turning a reel anyways. First cast, mate bags himself a nice 56cm Flattie.... after that... Nada. How do you fish offshore from Sydney and Botany Bay? I've never had any success outside the heads... any info much appreciated!
  10. Yeah and they taste beaut too. One of my fave fish to eat.
  11. After Friday's session on the oversized trevally and rat kings, went out again to see if i could get my mate into his first king. No such luch, molineaux was car park, with only a few small trevs and ans some PJs, so went outside the heads to see if we could find the sand/gravel for some flatties... nada. Had some follow on retrieve from what were probably small kings, but they disappeared as fast as they showed. Headed back to Molineaux in the arvo and with all the boats gone, we started berleying hard. Before long, it was on for young and old... No kings, but plenty of trevors to keep everyone happy.
  12. Yeah we were. Went fishing there yesterday but no kings this time. Just plenty of Trevally... nothing in size like those on Friday though.
  13. I've seen quite a few large PJs (i reckon they'd be going on about 15kilo +) this weekend being taken. Unmistakable rod actual... straight pull, no shakes, rod bent over like no tomorrow. I'll call it for a large PJ. I saw the a couple of fishermen keep them too... ughh....
  14. I think they were. When i pulled one close to the boat, i could see quite a few of them buzzing around underneath them. Hope it bodes well for a cracker season ahead.
