  1. Hi All , planning a trip for tomorrow afternoon/evening/night (hawkesbury) ............. want to target jewies, but are they put off by high chop? Is theire a species that goes on the chew on the chop? any thoughts/ideas welcome!!! ty
  2. wttmrwolf, I fished the Hawkesbury from 4am - 2pm today .........Dead as!! Only thing I caught was a small eel. Didn't seem like anyone else was onto anything either. Better luck Next time!!!
  3. I have noticed some brands have an actual 'tested rating' as well as the 'Marketed rating', that could explain the differences, though would have thought that the 50lb would have been pulled at QC!
  4. Keen to get the tinnie in the drink, Myself and cousin Rod launched at Peats Bridge Boat ramp at about 11pm, headed across to Flatrock Point to say G'day to fellow Fishraider 'wttmrwolf', fished for an hour or so only pulling up eels. I had a short lived idea that we would head across to Juno, but as soon as we got out from shelter we were getting smashed by the swell, and decided to hightail it around to the Railway Bridges, which yeilded a 'just' keeper Bream .....I kept him for my little bloke who loves it when Dad brings home a fish for him (and also helps me convince that I should go fishing). After some bobbing around and drifting around and between the bridges, for nothing more, we decided we would look for a new spot. I dragged out the 'ye old ancient fishing map' .....This map was found a month or 2 back floating in the river, and allthough it is a just a laminated photocopy of a realy old looking map, I hoped it may hold a few long lost secrets of the Hawkesbury. 'Tumbledown' was decided on as we would throw out a 'Californian squid' each, and fish a couple of other lines in hope of a big thumper Bream or 10. Just on Daybreak approx (2 Hours into the Run in Tide) ........... ZZZZZZZZZZ Rod (The dude not the pole) jumped up and grabbed his rod (The pole not the dude) , and after a small run, reeled in his first Legal Jewie We forgot to measure him, but would estimate a 65cm model, did weigh him though and came in just on 1.8KG. Not much happened after that, so we fired up some bangers on the cooker, had brekky and then off for drift around inside of Juno for a big fat ZILCH, headed home at about 1pm. All in all, A great night on the water regardless of the southerly buster and Rod's (The dude not the pole) still stoked over his first legal JEW!
  5. Thanks Jewfishnetter, I'm not really 'planning' around this weather scenario, It's more of a case of schedules lining up to allow time for a bit of fishing + the letting me out. From what I can see the 'Southerly change' is a possible factor that may put the fish 'on the bite' (apart from the right rig/bait etc), I just see the change as possible for increasing our chances. I would have loved to get out earlier, however with various 'goings on', I can't get out till later this evening. On last Saturday nights trip, I noticed prawns were running (I had thought it was too late in the season), anyway will take a scoop net this time, and see what I can get. Regardless I'll just be happy to have a line in the water Greg PS .. Who said I was chaising Jewies?? I'm still trying to land the elusive Hawkesbury Marlin.
  6. Gotcha PM ...Don't forget to bring a Cake!! It's my B'day !!
  7. I'm headed out tomorrow (Thursday 26th) plan to arrive around 10pm, for an overnighter ........plan on hanging around Juno/Brooklyn. It's my first chance to test the 'Air pressure Drop theory'. any tips? anyone else going out in same area thursday nite/Friday Morn?
  8. Thanks Gary ..yere will venture out after a nap next time!.......in hind sight was prob stupid! Anyway...perhaps it was the 'Grey Suits' that might have visited ..the way that rod bent and the line snapped...was so 'whack bam gone' ........I would have lost heaps of line & perhaps a rod ....had it been on the heavier geared setup! I also just realised that I used a box of 'whiskers' cat biscuits as Berley!!! It was First time ever (Usually use a mix of shop bought and tuna oil).........but on the way realised I had left the berley at home and on 'instict' ....looked at cat biscuits ......'whiskas cat food berley' may explain the 'Cat fish'!!! ....never done the cat food burley b4, but thought better than none.....NEVER AGIN!
  9. Thanks Johno ......If only those 'snap offs' was on the Baitrunner reel.....I Might have done better! Have never seen a quicker Take/Run/Snap! ........it was on a full Squid (Tweed bait Frozen)....bit in good nick. it was more Take/Snap, without the run. I'm not experieced but (Geez does anyone know an experienced angler from the Blue Mountains?) lol next time its heavyer gear ( the bust point was on 12KG Braid ....at a knot) Greg
  10. Got in the juice at Parsley Bay ramp at about 11pm, headed out to just inside of Juno Point, anchored for a few hours, only to catch eel tailed Catfish & Port Jackson Sharks Galore Have learnt to cut Catfish off (Not to mess with them) as 'deckie Rod', got spiked by one last time he was out with me (2 weeks ago), and the scar seems worse now!! (Could see the pain in the blokes Face at the time........to the extent I donated my last 1/2 beer!!! for medicinal puproses) After cutting off enough catfish to kill a horse, we ventured on to a drift which yeilded ............................... More Catfish tried a few other spots...too no avail Anchored at Juno.......fell asleep for an hour or too (Nervously......allthough chop was low, it was the first time anchored that close to the sea for me)........in my 1 Month owned second hand Fishabout. Awoke just prior to day break to what must have been wash from a 'dang big boat' ....which had us wondering 'Whats the Queen Mary doing in the Hawkesbury!' ...didn't actually see what caused the swell but had my little boats occupants worried! Proceeded over to drift from inside Flint & Steel bay, on the incoming tide...to catch a nice tasty size 58cm Flatty. With some mega fast & Sharp bust offs!!! Jewie??? (Rod Bends.....snap) ........Drag didn't seem to play a part of it as........it was just 'BANG!!!' Snap! GONE!!! Did catch a few undersize Jewies, a big ray (a lot off fun to play with for Rod), A leather Jacket off the rocks Ended up with a swim off one of them little beaches, and back in for another drift for 'nutter' but.... All in all! a good night out ....not much to keep.............................But was great just 'Bobbin around' Greg ...PS Still havn't seen a Marlin......Must be the wrong spot?
  11. Thanks Tricky .....I knew it was around there somewhere!!
  12. Have heard there is an 'unusually sandy spot', from the forums & from others ........It's a good flatty haunt. But have yet too find it (Land based) as I think it's only accesable via water unless staying at the caravan park. Good luck!!! also have been fishing with mates and seen very few keepers from the main warf (100m Downstream of the main ferry) ......1 x Bumper Brim + 4-5 Soapies, + plenty of crappy stuff. Wisdhing you luck & looking forward to your report of by-catching the elusive Hawkesbury Marlin! Greg
  13. Happy B'day Steve! I'm fairly new to posting on the forums, but have been reading regularly... Now can you P-L-E-A-S-E ....introduce me to Stewy & Dan .......Just tell 'em I'm a mate of yours from school!' yere I got a few wrinkles ...but just tellem I repeated year 7 about 20 times. lol anyway! Nice catch! I'm still hanging out for a 'keeper' size Jew from the boat! never mind the beach!! Well Done!
  14. NIce catch! but if your Bidding, as in eBay? forgett that stuff your better off supporting one of your local Tackle shops...rather than paying cuts of your $ to ebay/paypal/auspost!! Keep it real, and get to know your local tackle shop guy! ..it may even save you afew bucks! ebay is good for somethings...l used it to find may latest boat ....but the transaction didn't go through ebay! (no way!! they not only want the seller to pay to advertise, but also want a cut of the final price!)
