  1. Well, decided to get away from Brighton, and head south for the day. Nowhere in particular, and ended up at Crookhaven Heads boatramp. Plagued by small bream right from the start, but wow, the number of bait fish hanging around the weeds was incredible, and no wonder. Noticed the terns working the water in front of us, so slipped on a Wonder Wobbler ( nice big shiny steel job ), and instant strikes, and only 15 metres from the ramp! amazing! Ended up with 2 salmon ( around 4 kg each ), and 10 good tailor around the 1 kg mark - if only this happened every day! - all on a 6kg line, what great action! - the Salmon took a good 10 mins each to get close, then very very carefully, walk to the beach! Ah, and the boaties had there "dubious" legal flatties - just for a change, I got more than them! Nice little caravan park right next door, so sounds like a must vistit for the weekend next time. Locals all very friendly as well, and why not, they live stress free! What a great day! - it was all so good, that I didn't even think of the camera until it was too late. Girlfriend hadn't fished before, and even got a nice salmon around 3kg - what a great start for her! - she was simply jumping up and down, screaming to everyone about the fish she caught - good for her, her enjoyment, made me smile even more. Some days are good, but some are simply outstanding! - and the one that got away, when that reel started screaming that 6kg off at 100 mile an hour, I just laughed, and let it break, I had noway. My thought a big Kingie - next time mate, next time ciao! DOCCORTEX
  2. Live blood worm the only thing attracting the whiting, as for the bream, anything and everything as usual. cheers DOC
  3. Hi People SAT 28FEB2009 - Near the Dredging Works. Tide: High approx 10:30 Sunny, water clear, calm, slight wind A good 1-1 1/2 hour session, fished from around 9.30-11:00 Picked up 6 nice sand whiting, no pesky little bream for a change. Soon as the tide turned, all went quiet SUN 1stMAR2009 Thought I'd give it another bash, only the one legal whiting, but this time, heaps of pesky little bream. Water was not as clear, and a little weed. Overcast, no wind. Amazing, hot one day, cold the next - that's fishing for you. Next weekend - Greenwell Point. Now then, do I flog my worked VE SS for a 4WD and a boat? Cheers DOC
  4. $2 for one blood worm, they can't be the same ones I buy from Tom Ugly's. They must be one huge worm for $2 I usually get around 10 or so, worth 2 or 3 whiting baits each, for around $8 - seems the norm. Now, is there something on the forum re digging these little critters in Botany Bay ( legally ) - half the fun, is in getting the bait. Methods to use, how, when, type of environment, likely locations, etc. Ever go to Brissie, I can give you a couple of nice spots for Bream, and another for Yabbies Cheers DOC
  5. Your advice is spot on, from my experience. I havn't fished there, but have thought of it a few times. Gives me some food for thought. I've fished the runway bridge a number of times, ALWAYS catch something, but 90% undersized bream, keeps me amused I guess, and passes the hours. All go back in the drink, as they should. Guess I should add, I'd use a very fast taper rod ( say 10' plus ), and red beads, with the bait holder hooks. Ciao DOC
