Flattieman Posted July 16, 2006 Posted July 16, 2006 (edited) It's pretty amazing how large the Humboldt squid grow. Here's another topic from a little while back: http://www.fishraider.com.au/Invision/inde...?showtopic=9881 I particularly like CFD's link to this: http://www.tackletour.com/reviewsquidfishing.html Although, they're pretty tiny compared to the Colossal Squid (Mesonychoteuthis hamiltoni) and the Giant Squid (Architeuthis dux). Here's a few links: Colossal Squid: http://zapatopi.net/cephnews/colossalsquidcaught.html http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/2910849.stm http://news.bbc.co.uk/cbbcnews/hi/animals/...000/2915281.stm http://tolweb.org/tree?group=Mesonychoteut...oup=Cranchiidae http://marinebio.org/species.asp?id=247 Giant Squid: http://www.tonmo.com/science/public/giantsquidfacts.php http://www.smh.com.au/articles/2005/09/28/....html?from=top5 Colossal Squid: Giant Squid: Comparison of the Giant Squid (Architeuthis dux) and the Colossal Squid (Mesonychoteuthis hamiltoni): Here's a story about a new species recently discovered: http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/20...weirdsquid.html Flattieman. Flattieman Posted July 16, 2006 Posted July 16, 2006 you really are a walking, talking fish encyclopaedia arent u flattie some great info CFD Thanks mate. I just love the marine world. I guess that's not a bad thing either. Did you know that we, as humans, know more about the surface of the moon than the depths of the ocean? Flattieman.
Richie Posted July 16, 2006 Author Posted July 16, 2006 Thanks mate. I just love the marine world. I guess that's not a bad thing either. Did you know that we, as humans, know more about the surface of the moon than the depths of the ocean? Flattieman. It's fascinating stuff all right. I've just finished watching the Blue Planet series. Recommended for anyone with an interest in the ocean. Even if you're just a fisho, there's some baitball action that gives you a different perspective on what happens. My 2 year old loves this stuff too! When I was younger I wanted to be a Marine Biologist. I'm a computer geek now, but I still have an interest in Natural History. Bewdymate, Richie.
