While racing across the Suwannee River in Florida, 23-year-old Blake Fessenden of Wildwood had a close encounter of the worst kind with a 4-foot-long sturgeon.

The sturgeon apparently jumped out of the water directly in Mr. Fessenden’s path. Mr Fessenden, who was knocked off his Jet Ski and lay unconscious in the river, was rescued by his girlfriend who witnessed the accident.

Nearby boaters helped move Mr. Fessenden to the docks where he was transported to Shands Hospital in Gainesville. Both Mr Fessenden and the Sturgeon are expected to recover.
