wirlez
Hey raiders, Just a fish my mate (operates a resteraunt) had brought in the other night by some locals. We couldn't identify but the locals called it a king fish =\ ... now its not the usual yellowtail you get in aus/nz but are there aother species of kingies that may look like this in the pacific? Cheers Ray

Guest danielinbyron
Wahoo doesn't seem to have a birds beak like a wahoo .
Gibbofisho
dorsal fin would suggest wahoo, body shape would suggest wahoo, mouth could be a dodgy camera angle, but grey mackeral have a wider body.
wirlez
I didn't even realise the bands were that visible in the photo, couldn't really see them in the flesh as it was refrigerated overnight. Guess its settled then wahoo it is ... taken on a home made skirt made out of rice bag strips, red/white Better pic Edited October 18, 2006 by wirlez

MarlinMadness
It is definately a WAHOO!!! You can tell by the tail shape and also the mouth section aswell as the dorsal fin. Edited October 18, 2006 by Marlin-Madness
Flattieman
You can tell by the tail shape and also the mouth section aswell as the dorsal fin. Definitely. It was the strange lack of markings and colouration that threw me. Flattieman.
MarlinMadness
Nah, the colourings of this Wahoo is typical of its size, that being a juvenile. Edited October 18, 2006 by Marlin-Madness

MarlinMadness
Guys, My apologies my comments referred to the big colour picture, however in saying this the first post of the Wahoo that is all darky grey colour is typical of when a wahoo has been dead for some time. Jewhunter
I know in Kenya Spanish Mackeral are called Kingfish. If the locals are calling it a Kingfish in Vanuatu then I'm pretty sure it would be a species of Mackeral. Although it looks like a Wahoo to me! Cheers, Grant.
