Hi guys, just curious, last year when I was on a different fishing forum "not as good as this one ofcourse"

there were a lot of reports of people catching kingies trolling in clifton gardens, and the wedding cakes and middle harbour...so on...

from your own personal experience when do the kingies start spreading throughout the harbour?

some people tell me mid october others mid december....I'm just not sure.

would it be peak season right now, or is it yet to come?

after you catch one, you just cant help wanting to catch more........ :biggrin2:

cheers

The rats arrive inside the harbour traditionally at around christmas time. This can of course vary. Water temps are the most important thing to look out for. There are LOTS of rat kings inside the harbour at the moment. I caught about 10 last wednesday near middle head. A few mates of mine got more than 20 at north head as well.

You will see kings busting up on the surface in the harbour around mid december and they will be hanging around the buoys and such about now. The absolute peak time is february. They stay around till april/may.

About now you will score kings by anchoring around the structure and fishing squid strips as well as livies. Yakkas work but not as consistent as squid. The other bait worth looking at are garfish as told to me by dan.. but never used them live previously. ONly used them on ganged hooks from the rocks and they got hammered. Cheers Kelvin
