Guest danielinbyron
waiting for new reel to arrive i thought i'd give the calcutta a bit of a go .. It quickly became pretty expensive with birds nests and snap offs with lures going soring into the drink.I almost pulled the pin after a couple of casts this afternoon Then i remember there was a full spool of mono in my bag .. I cut the crap braid off {hercules 25LB} and Ewan helped me respool with mono . It was all smooth sailing from there on in.. got a few tailor and plenty of distance casting , no worries.. Made me think maybe they're not meant to take braid, it was as if the level wind could'nt quite keep up when i was firing a lure out.. though that should remain the same for the mono ...??? It worked so well i'll probably stick with it a while but i was wondering , has anyone got one of these and had this experience . Is it due to braid or to crappy braid .. Guest Big-Banana
Braid doesn't like my level wind either! Ive given up on using it with casting reels.
Guest danielinbyron
spoke to dunphies guy today said same thing.. i seem to be getting great distance without it so i'll stick with mono. he said i could mess around with the brakes etc . but why bother. Mondo Rock
Hi Daniel - what kind of Calcutta is it? I've used Calcutta 250s spooled with 30lb braid for barra flicking for the past ten years and had no problems. I can imagine that the 400s and other bigger sizes might be a bit tougher to cast though . . .
