domza
Saw the story on a news update, and theres actual footage of the great white taking chunks out of the whale. Pretty amazing stuff, can't wait to see the whole story on the 6pm news. heres the story SWIMMERS in Perth have been warned that a dead whale that washed up on a beach may have attracted sharks. A large white shark was spotted feeding on the huge whale carcass when it floated off Perth before it washed on a beach overnight near the Club Capricorn Resort in Yanchep. Department of Fisheries Regional manager Tony Cappelluti said even beached the dead whale still posed a threat to swimmers, surfers and divers. "It is quite a big animal, we believe it is a pygmy blue whale, and is probably in the vicinity of 50 to 60 tonnes," Mr Cappelluti said. "There is a risk to people in the water, whale carcasses attract large predators, particularly sharks. "We are telling people they should stay well clear of it at least until a few days after it is removed." The carcass would leach oil into the sand while it lay there and this would attract to sharks for days after the carcass was removed, he said. "It will get pretty stinky especially if the weather gets a bit warmer."
