hey fellas headed out this morning for a quick 3 hour stint on the river.

from word go i new we were going to have a very interesting day.

got to the boat ramp and my motor was running like a dog, infact it was running at 1/3 of its usual power.

anyway we soldiered on in hope of jagging an early morning jew.

finally after a long short ride we got to our spot which was engulfed by tailor, decided to spin a couple up and chuck em down for livies.

after our first coffees not much seemed to be happening all baits untouched, me thinking weird but it wasn t to long before i hear the beautiful noise of braid screaming through the 6500 i pick up the rod and all goes slack. dam.

1 minute later and bang the squid goes off after decent fight up comes our first Jew of the year.

although not massive defintely increased our hopes for a succesful session.

Anyways after that not much happened the tide had finished and we decided enoughs enough so we packed up. only problem being so did the engine spewin i spend the next hour and half trying to work out what was wrong, got her started but gee running at 10%.

during the break we decided we will now fish another tide so off to our second spot which you can see in the pic we were there no longer than 5 minutes and one of my 6500 go off then slack again. spewin.

i was ready to throw the towel in but no sooner and i hear another rod going off, this time the fish was going know where and we now boated our second jew in 4 hours.

enough was said and us happy fellas decided to call it a day.

the fish were not weighed but the larger one was 133cm any estimates?

Shame about the motor but big  on the Jews.

At 133cm that fish would normally weigh about 24-28kgs but it looks a bit thin. 19 -21kgs I reckon.

Top fish, well done! :yahoo:

Cheers,

Grant.

she was on the skinnier side whilst the smaller one was fat as.

definately in the teens i suspect

found this on another site.

Weight (grams) = 0.011355 x Length (cm) to the power of 2.94. So if you caught a Mulloway of 133cm, using the formula you would calculate 0.011355 x 133 to the power of 2.94. So you would get 19.92 kilos. Give or take a few grams

Don't you love that, everything always evens itself out. Shit time with the engine, yet excellent results.

Seems like you were not short of action on the boating and fishing side.

Well done, some mighty fine fish indeed.

Top effort mate - Good looking fish !

Your bigger one does seem very thin and long - The one I got was only

120cm long - but its head was huge - very thick fish. He was

definately 20kg as I weighed him on the home scales. I have

found that males are short and stumpy - females are long and

skinny. I agree with you about him weighing in the teens.

Please guys correct me if im wrong as it has been a few years

since I got one this big. There was 1 thing I found with

these fish - the males grunt for a while after you bring them up.

Usually fight a lot harder as they are thick and fat with a huge tail.

I have caught jew over the 110 cm and have found that they

are just on 10 kg. I do not belive that formula is a true

indication of weight. You have to consider the thickness, length

and height of the fish. The 20kg I caught was 45 cm high and the

tail was VERY wide. I have found that you can tell a jewies weight

by the thickness of the tail. I have seen a 43 kg jew and the tail

was like a straw broom and thick.

Spot on Jim.

Formulas a fine as a general guide but the weight of a fish the same length can vary greatly.

110cm & 10kg is about right. At my fave beach spot the fish tend to be very fat. As a guide I got a 120cm that went 21kgs. A 114cm that went 14kgs & a 92cm that went 8kgs.

At another spot I've caught a 110cm that went 8kgs. Every fish is different.

Your fish looked very fat indeed. No doubt 20kgs.

Gee the Jew are really firing up. I might have to have a crack up here soon. :biggrin2:

Cheers,

Grant.
