fishyfingers Posted July 15, 2007 Posted July 15, 2007 About 2 months ago I changed the motor on my boat from a 70hp Evinrude to an 85hp Johnson. Made a great difference except the Johnno is a 25inch leg whereas the other was a 20. Anyhoot, we mounted it and sorted out the new holes however the old ones are still giving me the SH!TS. I've tried everything but they're still taking in water! I plugged them with Sycaflex in the end as I was told it was the bees knees but they're still leaking so I've finally gotten off my arse and bought the fiberglass and resin etc... and I'm gonna fiberglass the back of the transim then give it a new coat of paint. Years ago I fibreglassed the inside of my van cause I was refrigerating it but I've never done anything where it had to be water tight. Any hints?
Flightmanager Posted July 15, 2007 Posted July 15, 2007 EVerything must be super clean. Any dust or oil on the original surface can lead to delamination of the new work. Try not to inhale too many of the fumes , resin is pretty toxic. Good luck with the job!! Ross
