choad Posted September 17, 2007 Share Posted September 17, 2007 what's your budget? i'd go a 10 foot medium/fast action type rod with a bit of grunt in the butt, 20-30pd braid and a biggish reel with a decent ratio. should get big distance. The rod choice will be pretty much the same such as an FSU 4120 or 5120 if you want to throw lures over the 85gm mark. They are available in graph butt versions which will make them a little lighter. choad Posted September 18, 2007 Share Posted September 18, 2007 I'd go mono not braid of the rocks, better abrasion resistance. not as good for casting though. you want a good 30 pd worth of breaking strain and the braid is often stronger than it's rated. try casting the same distance with a 30pd mono. if you're worried about cutting on the rocks when the fish is close, use an extra long mono leader say 6 metres.
