G'day fellas,

Just a query on the state of the Mallabar ramp. Anyone used it before? Accessible without a 4wd? As much detail as possible would be great.

Thanks in advance

It can be very hard to retrieve your boat if there is any swell or waves,

that ramp is cement all the way, and has a 90 deg turn, and a steep slope

so can be a little tricky for the inexperianced. Rocks on both sides no sand,

and no pontoon or jetty.Very few boats use it from what I have seen.

I've done a bit more research and some places call it as a rescue boat only launching ramp. It'd be a lot easier to hit the grounds we fish from there, but seems a bit too tricky for a big boat.

Cheers mate.

There is a twin hull rescue boat garaged at the top of the hill there opp the

beach, they use the ramp often. I have seen the odd private boat trailor parked

in the carpark above the ramp on rare occasions and I dont remember seeing any

signs stating that the ramp is only for the rescue boat. I did have the same idea as

you 12 months ago but decided against using this ramp.

You may launch your boat on a calm morning, and after a days fishing if the wind and

waves pick up, it would be next to impossible to retrieve your boat without doing

damage to it, if you are lucky enough to come back in, and have favourable conditions,

you would have no probs. Im not game enough to try and risk it.
