I have an eight foot zodiac inflatable, and I am considering using an electric motor.

my main question is how long do these things go for.

I had a minn kota 55lb riptide that would need recharging every 3-5 outings depending on how much i used it, but if your using it as your main source of power having 2 batteries may be a good idea, plenty for a day on the water. Also keep it in your house not your garage, people like to steal them
