Jighead Weights In The Surf

Bigfoot

Recommended Posts

Hi raiders

I have been jigging for a while in Esturies but am contemplating

having a go for some Flathead, ect... in the Surf.

Thinking of trying my Faves: 3" Gulp minnows in both Pink and Pearl

and also 4" Walleye power minnows in Smelt and pearl watermellon

Impailed onto 3/8 to 1/2 oz. jigheads

Rigged onto a 8lb mono leader unied to 4lb main line

Am I anywhere near the mark?

Can I ask for some advice from you that are Experienced in the art?

Cheers

Bigfoot

I was reading an article on this only last night Bigfoot,by Leanne and Rob Payne. They've used the type of gear you're talking about with 9 gm jigheads and 3" Ecogear grassminnows for a while now, working around the low tides, with good results. After wading for three hours on midstream flats today for 2 dropped fish the idea of having a whole beach to wander along, where the fish wouldn't get the concentration of effort my usual spots cop in the holiday period,is pretty interesting.I reckon worms and shads would be worth a go in the surf too-I got 5 flatties on Saturday on one of those little mullet looking Storm shads so am pretty impressed with them just now.The caspar? clear power minnows pull flatties too-I think they're a good match for whitebait and they really show up well in clear water.

Cheers,

Dave.

Thanks Dave

I can relate to the urge to stalk the full face of my favoured Surf Beach

and have worked metal slices with mixed success from the shore but am yet

to have a real go at flickin' some plastic around the gutters.

Have seen quite a few solid whiting lurking in the wash and am also curious

to know how readily they will attack a softie as compared to a live worm.

Either way, I look forward to the challenge.
