St Georges Basin / Sussex Inlet

Recommended Posts

Gday All,

Making a trip down with the family to St Georges Basin in the new year for a week.

It will be my first time down there, so are there any Raiders out there who know the area well, and can advise what where and how to catch some fish down there. I will have my boat with me.

Any help will be appreciated.

Cheers,

Jeff

G'day

There are some pretty productive artificial reefs (gps points at the DPI website) in the Basin.

I'd say, to start with, they would be the best bet, then

you could always do some scouting near the Islands and there abouts.

In the past, we have had some luck around both areas mentioned.

With the weather man saying that it will be fairly blowy, i can foresee a whole

heap of anglers wetting a line in the relative peace of the basin, SO, my tip is:

Get out there and find a spot all to yourself and get comfortable, away from the sheep.

Good luck!

Thanks for your replies.

Unfortunately, we will be down there between the 6th and 12th Jan, so will just miss you.

Anyway will def hit the spots around the island and see how we go.

What can I expect to catch in the basin? Just the usual lizards and bream, I guess? Or something more interesting?

Hey Jeff,

Yes you will find the common species,Bream, Whiting, snapper and there can be some BIG Flatties

around the Basin so don't go in under gunned.

There is also an unpredictability about the Basin, Who knows you might even hook a Jew?????

Good Luck
