Daiwa Sealine 600h O/hd With Tica 15kg Jig Stik

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone.

I recently purchased a Daiwa Sealine 600H Star Drag overhead & a Tica 15Kilo Graphite Composite Jig Stik in a closing down sale while on holidays in Qld.

Can anybody tell me much about these modern day Sealines ? Do they still have a good reputation ? And how does the Daiwa star drag system rate against the others in the $300 price range?

The Tica rod certainly looks the part. Can anyone who has used a Tica Jig Stik give an opinion?....... The model number is JC- LE621301 15kg line class.

Also the Tica Jig Stik was sold to me at a further discounted price because the insert in the tip guide was missing. One of my friends who operates a deep sea spanner crab operation among other things recommended that I have the standard tip replaced with a roller tip and this was subsequently arranged. I intend spooling up with the 45lb mono they threw in and may need to switch over to 80lb braid as well and was wondering about roller tips with braid lines these days.

I wish to use the combo mainly for deep water jigging, trolling, and also as a downrigger rod as well as a general purpose straight down the back rod on the Hawkesbury and the likes, along with a straight down the back Alvey non castable snapper reel on a tiger rod at the opposite side of the stern.

Advice and comments would be appreciated.

Due to the lousy conditions up north day after day I didn't get a chance to test out the new outfit myself.

Cheers

The 600 sealine was ok in its day Byron ,but is out dated these days and for high speed jigging ,this reel is far too slow.

Ok for trolling and livebaiting on the downrigger.

I used to use one many yrs ago when live baiting off the stones and it worked ok for that application.

Cheers Stewy

Hi.

I think you'll be disappointed with the Daiwa as a jigger for several reasons. One it's too big. Two it's only about 3.5 to 1 gearing. and the roller tip on rod is for trolling and fast running fish. Not sluggers.

I've got a 450h. which is a great trout reel here on reefs.

If you can afford. I'd keep that rig for fishing. and go different for Jigging. It's a specialists game.

Ask at local tackle shops. They'll put you right.

Get standard tip put back on rod. and look for a Daiwa Saltist. or similar. You'll be a lot happier and a lot more comfortable jigging.

Hi Macka thanks for that . I thought that myself but got the rod and the reel at half tackle shop invoice value.

I needed a rod and reel to run off one of the the downriggers anyway and also as a companion to an alvey fished straight down off the stern, and maybe rigged up as a bottom jig letting the swell do the work. How's that sound to you for this sealine. It would be pretty hopeless if it couldn't at least equal an alvey at that ay.

Thanks mate, Has the water recovered up there ok ?

Yep.

It'll do that job ok. Saltist 30 will do a good jig job with that reel for you too, at a cheap price.

We at Yeppoon. basically coastal Rocky. Water due to peak here Sun/ Mon. It's rising already.

One thing though. There's not many cobwebs. Missus hates spiders.
