Friday & Saturday - Hawkesbury River

THE SWEENEY

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

Fished the river Friday arvo to Saturday arvo with 7 fisho's (including Fisherwoman, Captain Rats, Catana) and 3 boats, river was dead quiet, water was dirty and lots of catfish around. Only caught 1 soapie and 2 flatheads between all of us.

Had a quiet but good time. Nice to be out on the water after all the rain!

Laurie.

Hi The Sweeney. You weren't alone don't worry about that, although Saturday early pm when we were fishing the Box Head and West Head bait grounds the action was fast for take home trevally and smaller fish of just about every other species in the shallower water in close. Nobody got any yellowtail for some reason, but we got enough legal size tailor for bait after moving from the Box Head side to the down wind side of the river, which took us close in at West Head, having found no baitfish whatsover on the Box Head side. We got near a record number of eels and catfish around the rail bridge on our jew rigs overnight. So I guess it was due to the dirtier colour of the water or they were gathering there before they go out to the reefs to spawn. Good size jew were caught on Friday night in similiar water near Bar Point, and bream as well with not many catches of catfish and only the odd eel caught. There were not any boats at all near the rail bridge area. Was that one of the boats fishing wide of us at Gunyah around dark, where one of the fishermen was a big bald or a head shaven chap in a dark blue top?

Cheers

Laurie

Thats is :1fishing1:

Lots of time spent :1fishing1: and sometime nothing reel good to show for our efforts.

But us true fishos know it's the good and the bad that make us what we are :1fishing1: man.

The weather has been s----t for the pass few weeks so this will contribute to the lack of fish but

at least you's had ago and 10 points for that alone

Cheers

Bob
