Has anyone seen these rods in the shops before? They are advertised in the 2008 Shimano Catalogue but I have yet to see one before, they look really nice though...

Daniel..

use one which is partnered up to the stella

purely used for bashing the bottom at browns.......

has a great feel and action to it and does the job surprisingly well..

a nice bit of gear.......however the price is getting up there..justification i guess in the spiel by shimano with regards to comparing it to a blue rose, hence the name..

Cheers Warnie..

They have been around for over a year now, very nice rods but for the RRP of over $700 there are many better Jap rods...

Hey Netic, the Blue Rose is a Japanese made rod, and from what I have heard from some of the specialist jigging shops in QLD and WA who stock the Jap stuff as well that the Blue Rose's are very much up their with the best.

Daniel,

I have played with them a heap and just dont like them. I also played with them in Osaka japan and found that they are like Broom Sticks once compared with the likes of Carpenter, Fisherman, GUSA Blanks, Smiths and Salitgas.

The shop owner in Japan could not reccomend highly enough for me to steer clar of the blue rose for jigging and downrigging. For bottom bashing it would be fine but i found them very stiff. The grips look cool though!

once again its your choice.

Hey Daniel, Im aware that the blue rose is a jap made rod but its not made by one of the Specialised jap jigging brands like the smiths or Xzogas, For the price of a blue rose there are many better rods, Im extremely pro Shimano as many know but if i was comparing a Blue rose or Jig wrex to a Smith the smith would win hands down...

The Blue Rose's are slow in action - load them up and you will find they bend right through to the fore-grip. Comparatively, they may be a bit stiffer than others but it all depends on what you are gauging against. The PE8 model in question also weighs a light 340g and with a drag rating of around 14kg (not 100% sure on that rating from memory).

The Blue Rose's have a very good reputation in Japan and do stand out amongst offerings from boutique brands such as Fisherman and Smith. They feature highest quality components and near 100% carbon fibre blanks for great response.

You will find many retailers with current Blue Rose's on special around $450 odd - a steal. There may be new models on the way into the 2008/2009 Shimano line-up.
