Kirks
hey guys Up on holidays I wanted to try out my SX 40 so I tied it on with a loop knot and tried to throw it out and only managed a cast round about 10 or so meters. I was using the lightest tierra rod and a 2000 tierra with six lb braid and 10lb leader. Now i gave it thought and i think i was using to heavier line so on the other spool i have 3lb fireline and 6lb leader. Do you thing a change of line weight will help. I have heard Pro's can cast 20-30 metres with this thing. Cheers steve
donjuarez
Not sure to be honest.. I manage to cast them about 20 metres quite easily on a tierra rod, 6lb fireline and usually 8lb leader. DOn;t know that I can hit 30 metres though.. far from pro
Guest
The lighter setup will definately allow you more metres and the lighter leader will help heaps. Cheers Stewy
chrisg
I know where your coming from Steve. SX40's seem to be the worst casting of all my hardbodies. Keep everything light, try different casting techniques and keep the wind behind you..it all helps. Cheers C.

chewsta
How long is your leader mate? If theres a few wraps of leader around your spool when casting this will slow the cast as it fly's from the spool. hope that makes sense??
Bream Mad
TRY shorter leader and try to cast with the leader already out of the guides SX40's are definitley pretty ordinary on distance, try a chubby much better, or a blade even better again 6lb fireline is pretty stiff and poor for casting light lures, if you must use it try crystal in 2 or 4lb or go to something like sunline super PE and you will see a big difference how long is you rod? longer is better for distance, i favour rods close to 7' cheers bm
