Gemfish In Shallow Water

Alby

Recommended Posts

Spent the weekend down at Sussex inlet. Had a fish outside, got a good feed of squid but no snapper. :(

I ended up catching about a dozen Gemfish whilst targeting snapper, I was only in 20 meters of water. I always thought that you only caught them in deeper water? I am pretty sure that they are Gemfish is this right ?

Thanks for that

I just had a look at some pics and I think your right, best way to describe them is a hairtail with a normal tail. I didnt thinh Gemfish were in that close. They were all around the 70-80 cm mark. Bit of fun on light gear. Are they any good to eat?

They can be ok to eat ,but they can also be infested with protozea worms at times which are quite visible when you clean them.

Cheers Stewy
