Just upgraded my Lowrance X51 to a Lowance HDS 5. Weather has been crap so have not been able to give it a good workout yet but the clarity is amazing. Had a fish on my usual grounds and feel like I have a new set of glasses on. I am able to see so much more detail it feels like I am about to rediscover a whole new fishing area again. I purchased the combo unit even though I wasn't in the market for a GPS but the price difference extra was'n't enough not to go that way and figure will be handy as a backup GPS anyway. Have yet to fiddle with all the options in detail but in its out of the box plug in and go format it is brilliant. Very impressed.
  2. Thanks for that I just had a look at some pics and I think your right, best way to describe them is a hairtail with a normal tail. I didnt thinh Gemfish were in that close. They were all around the 70-80 cm mark. Bit of fun on light gear. Are they any good to eat?
  3. Spent the weekend down at Sussex inlet. Had a fish outside, got a good feed of squid but no snapper. I ended up catching about a dozen Gemfish whilst targeting snapper, I was only in 20 meters of water. I always thought that you only caught them in deeper water? I am pretty sure that they are Gemfish is this right ? Alby
  4. I often see them with their fin out off Sussex Inlet and have hand fed them throwback catches. After reading this thread though I will be more cautious in future. The Ganetts birds are a pain in the a$%#se though Alby
  5. Yeah I had a look on the map. You guys are further north than I thought. Its still a bit of a hike from Murrays beach Ramp. I'm probably better hanging around closer the JB heads. Heading down this weekend but not confident that I will get an opportunity to give it a go with this weather Cheers Alby
  6. If you are coming from the other side is it far to the Kingie grounds? I fish out of Sussex Inlet but was thinking of dragging my boat round to Murrays beach ramp and having a go, I just love watching that Adventure Bound JB Kings DVD Cheers Alby
  7. I was going to ask the same question. I go to Sussex and have started heading outside a bit. I have had a bit of success on the reefs behind the bommie or you can drift for flathead on the sand flats anywhere around there. Just use pilchards or strip baits The oter option is to pull a couple of lures around the Island in front of the Sussex bar
