nice...what do u use for bait?? how do u slay the beasts?

I hear they go wild for CORN KERNELLS. A couple of kernells on a hook and float it out to them. Some say that bread is the other bait they like.

Did you know it is illegal to release any carp you catch in NSW. They have to be killed.

Enjoy.

Gday moses .. get your friend to check out this link if he wants to stock his dam

Stocking fish in farm dams (Primefact 89)

This guide is for stocking fish for angling and domestic consumption on private property only. Commercial fish farming (aquaculture) is a specialised venture needing thorough investigation of the technology and economics, and requires a permit from NSW DPI (which has literature on fish and crayfish farming). Stocking of fish into public waters (including creeks, rivers and impoundments) requires a special NSW DPI permit.

its not actually illegal 2 release carp..

its suggested not 2 release them.. but definately not illegal...

alot of people get confused with this..

the carp is looked down on and given such a bad name when really... is it all that bad???

i know i love catching the big boys more then any other freshwater fish..

and as i dont eat freshwater fish anyway.. and im an avid fisherman.. i think what is best 4 me???

How can you help?

Only keep koi in places (garden ponds and other outdoor containers) where they cannot escape into natural waterways.

Remember that it is illegal to stock carp into streams, rivers or lakes in NSW and fines of up to $11,000 apply.

Do not use live carp as bait. The use of live carp as bait in freshwater is illegal and carries a high probability of infesting new areas with carp.

Ensure your boat and trailer are free of weed before re-launching to avoid the possibility of spreading carp eggs and juveniles.

Assist efforts to restore our rivers (which can help native fauna to out-compete carp) by taking part in a Rivercare, Landcare or Waterwatch project.

Manage your land in a way that reduces damage to natural waterways, for example by restricting stock access to stream banks and conserving or restoring riparian vegetation.

Take part in native fish restocking programs with your local angling group, and support recreational fishing for carp in your area.

Support the commercial harvesting of carp by purchasing products such as carp-based fertilisers or pet food.

Report any sightings of carp outside their known distribution to your local NSW DPI Office.

I STAND CORRECTED! :(

Though it still stands that it is illegal to stock carp into streams, rivers or lakes in NSW and there are fines of up to $11,000

:thumbup: I agree! I have never seen this bloody vermin generate so much interest and enthusiasm ... great stuff! :biggrin2:

Best of luck to all who attend, and remember the value of the humble carp fillet as saltwater bait. ;)

HOOKY HOOKY

Looks like I might be able to come down on Sunday if the weather holds out. My Wife and the 2 kids fish also, so the 4 of us should give those carp a bit of a run for their money.

My question is what type and size hook is the best to use. I hear they have fussy mouths and spit out hooks when they feel the point. Is a circle hook the best? If not, what and what size?

Appreciate the advice and looking forward to putting faces to names.

Probably be able to get my little tinny in there then

Sounds like there could already be some bass in there which is good add some silver perch and you might get a good little fishery mind you the bass will wise up to lures pretty quick if you hit it to often
