kingchaser Posted November 9, 2008 Share Posted November 9, 2008 hey guys, been seeing lots of post with some spectacular kings being caught in botany, syd harbour and casino. so my question is has anyone been lucky enough to get some/or heard of kingies being caught in Pittwater lately. I want to get out there, and hopefully if it is slow that my perserverence is fueled on by some stories of anglers getting amongst the kings... Went out last week and saw a small school of around 5-6 fish on the sounder - they were 'big' - Guestimate at around 1m long. Couldn't raise them though and they didn't hang about long. There was once a time when they were everywhere in Pittwater. It angers me that we even allow meshing and commercial effort in Pittwater or any other estuary for that matter. The fishery has taken a serious nose dive in the past 3 years. Don't blame the pros though! They are only trying to feed their families. The pros from Sydney Harbour had little choice but to move there, they have nowhere left. We need to take our concerns to fisheries about buying these guys out and returning the waterway to rec only before it's too late. We got a few hits and landed 1x 70cm King today in Pittwater but I would not be rushing to fish there..........it seems very quiet still. Thats pretty annoying, i know its their job but how can we compete with them when they clean up an area the night before we all go out and fish it and get crappy results-i think something needs to be done. kingchaser Posted November 11, 2008 Author Share Posted November 11, 2008 id be up for a petition against the pro's. back in the day 6 or 7 years ago, everyday out use to produce. mates grandpa had a sail boat, and we'd spin off that. Huge Huge football size fish busting, and there were more than one group. salmon, tailor, bonnies were plentiful....even saw some tuna busting and jumping in entrance to pwater and into b.bay..... good to here there are some rats around. has anyone ever thought of getting some structures into pittwater, like the harbour has (sticks, wed cakes, etc) Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

It won't be too long now! 2007 was one of the best years i've had on surface fish in and out of botany bay, averaging 15-20 mixed pelagics per session. This year there was nothing, nothing at all. The pros could'nt be more limited in the Sydney region than they are now. The problem is that in their desperation to make a living their working Pittwater, Broken bay and the Hawkesbury to death and some of them are bending and breaking the rules just to feed the family.............there were plenty of EP fillets for sale in the pubs this Winter as an example!! The situation in Pittwater is getting hopeless! The Caulerpa taxifolia is spreading rapidly with a bit of help from rec anchors and a lot of help from nets and trawlers. I am writing to my local member in Pittwater and trying to start a grass roots campaign locally first but we can all do our bit. tide'n'knots Posted November 12, 2008 Share Posted November 12, 2008 One of the problems associated with buying out the pro's in a certain area is that as soon as they are gone other pro's from neighbouring rivers and ports simply turn up and start fishing as they arent on someone else's turf! I have a mate who lives in tuncurry and he reckons thats what happened up there, Dont know if this is correct or maybe there have since been laws put in place to stop this in the future.
