    Squids

Ahh the joy of difference in opinion. :-) Personally, it's my opinion that at THIS time of year is not the time to be collecting the squid to freeze for future use. The squid are breeding and its not the time to taking the mums and dads from the water, we need em to do what they do, if we start taking away the breeders, its just going to make it harder squiding for the summer in front of us. but again Thats the joy of difference in opinion. See you on the water Wrinks
  7. Hi chris I have all the SOL up to 4000. ( think thats as far as they go ) great reels, however slightly disappointed with the 2000, Just doesnt have the same feel as my advantage. Its worth a look, and see what you think. ( its cheaper too ) wrinks
  8. looks to me that we have the same trend as last year. The big Sydney Harbour kings ( fish between 88 and 105cm ) left on the 27th of April. Well, 73 of the 74 fish that were tagged with a radio transmitter all pasted North Head on that particular day. Then Pittwater fired up for about a month afterwards. I know where i'd be fishing this weekend. Wrinks
  9. persistance And if you dont end up with a fly in the back of the head your just not trying hard enough ;-)
  10. Nice fish River ? or Lake ? What area ?? Wrinks
  11. We had salmon schools on Sat and Sun in the Harbour. Not big schools, but they were on the top feeding on Sat, and we got amoungst them on the bottom on Sunday Wrinks
  12. yep still around. got a nice 80 today, and some cracking tailor, 6 of, all between 45 and 60 cm. all inside the harbour
  13. Never seen them jump out of the water, but have had them take a jig skimmed over the top of the water. What is special, and esp this time of the year when the big fellas are paired up for breeding, is when you hook one, and its partner follows it in to the boat, if your real lucky, you can get a double hook up. It does happen, although i've only done it once, and been close a couple of other times. Those other times, i've caught the partner almost instantly as the jig hits the water again. Wrinks
  14. yes the proof certainly is in the picture. I'm refering to big kings, not those little fella's. I guess my best advise is to go with what you think is the best option, looks will often sway you towards the holder of choice. I have made plenty of mistakes when it comes to rod holders, which is why i'm currently having mine custom built, and they will be welded to the boat. Ugly as, but what i need. Wrinks
  15. Gday Gazza. Ive got to say that i would have my money on the boathoist over your plastic fantastic numbers. Its a long story, but i have had a king this year pop the rivots on a stainless rod holder. no word of a lie. There have been some very serious fish this year, and i'm hoping this continues to next year wrinks
  16. They look like a good idea, and would suit most fish that you target. I will say that if your after some of the bigger kings, they look a little too vertical, much like the ones on my boat, and the reason that i have snapped 3 rods this year. Just something to consider. Wrinks
  17. Yep. Best you get a chart which will show you the no anchoring zone. The Zone itself is actually a very large area, It actually runs all the way Sth of the Tripod to Shark IS. There is alot of cables and pipes etc in that area, which are owned by teh Navy, hence the reason they dont want any anchores dropped in that area.
  18. They are still around, but not in the numbers we are used to. We managed a few rats and a mate was smoked as well.( on Sunday ) Be warned anchoring on the Tripod. Waterways WILL book you.
  19. THanks guys Am looking at a Saltist 2 speed overhead. But am starting to think that its best to stick with our aus suppiers wrinks
  20. Hey Raiders Does anyone know of any good tackle shops in / around Honkers. If so, would you have any web site address wrinks
  21. 20kg drag ?? bit of an overkill. Ceph is on the money, 80lbs braid, 100 lbs leader. Set the drag so its bloody hard to pull of with your hand, ( that will be alot less than the 20 kgs as previously mentioned ) I prefer to leave the rod in the holder, and let the fish hook itself. For those that just have to hold the rod and cant leave it alone, make sure you resist the tempation to strike too early. If you feel a decent nudge, do the opposite, instead of striking the fish, drop the rod and go with it till you cant go any lower, then hit the fish. Wrinks
  22. Hmmmm So in summary You often fish Oblisk for jew, in the hope of bending your rod, and while playing with some plastic's your rod gets tugged off the bank And you do this often Interesting
  23. Lets hope the big fella's come back. We have had an awsome time this summer, our best day was 15 bust ups and 4 fish landed, all 98 - 102 cms As for the squid I have to disagree i think this has been the easiest year ever on the squid. We got 15 two days ago, and we were worried that we'd run out really quick I would say that on average we have been getting between 20 and 30 starting at 6 am and finished by 7.30 - 8 am i reckon thats good going wrinks
