arkedup Posted November 29, 2008 Posted November 29, 2008 Hi Guys does anyone know what this is ? the young bloke found it belly up floating in Brisbane Waters out the back this morning
0 Josh88 Posted November 29, 2008 Posted November 29, 2008 (edited) Looks like a big coi/goldfish type thing. That would explain why it was dead in the saltwater Some sort of wrasse i'd say otherwise Edited November 29, 2008 by Josh88
0 arkedup Posted November 29, 2008 Author Posted November 29, 2008 Looks like a big coi/goldfish type thing. That would explain why it was dead in the saltwater Some sort of wrasse i'd say otherwise Hi Josh thank you I was thinking it looked like a coi or goldfish but I couldnt work out why it was in Brisbane waters I supose it could have been dumped there when it died It never ceases to amaze me what people will dump in our waterways rather than have a stinky rubbish bin!
0 King slayer Posted November 29, 2008 Posted November 29, 2008 Yeah, I'd say it's definitely a carp. Probably wild from up in the fresh water reaches
0 olitay Posted November 29, 2008 Posted November 29, 2008 I think this is a perfect example of irresponsible people disposing of foreign species in our water. Little do they know the devastation their irresponsible acts can incur on water system. I had a few Oscas that had to be relocated recently and when i called the aquarium i bought them from and asked for their advice as to what i should do to them I was astounded when the owner of the shop replied "just take them down to your local waterway and throw them in". Makes you wonder! B
0 glennmreid Posted November 29, 2008 Posted November 29, 2008 I think someone has dumped that. Not sure where or if there are any fresh water areas in Brisbane Waters. Looks like a Koi or a big gold fish. I thought wild carp would be a darker colour.
0 kiwi waynie Posted December 1, 2008 Posted December 1, 2008 I'd say it was released' and that would be worth easy $350 - $500 from the pet shop / pond shop. I would have tried CPR n mouth to rubbery bits. But just like it's free swimin cuzzies probably better in that state hey! Lata Raidas Waynie
0 industrial Posted December 1, 2008 Posted December 1, 2008 probably some sort of koi from the chinese gardens that escaped or something they are worth some money (when alive), few 100 at most
0 glennmreid Posted December 4, 2008 Posted December 4, 2008 probably some sort of koi from the chinese gardens that escaped or something they are worth some money (when alive), few 100 at most they are expensive these koi. definately not someting you would see here in the wild.
0 Anti-Carp Posted December 4, 2008 Posted December 4, 2008 they are expensive these koi. definately not someting you would see here in the wild. You'd be suprised Glenn, I've caught quite a few koi and gold fish while fishing for carp. You will also get carp that have bred with koi (technically a koi is just a colored carp). How these koi/goldfish get in our waterways can be any one's guess.
0 zrealist Posted December 4, 2008 Posted December 4, 2008 I've seen koi jumping in the section of the para river behind para stadium.
0 glennmreid Posted December 4, 2008 Posted December 4, 2008 there you go, i've learnt something new.
