Trebble Trouble

Now the bass are starting to fire I have remembered one of my pet hates about surface lures.

Linking trebbles

it seems every 2nd cast I make when I retrieve the lure the front trebble is either hooked over the front mouth of the jitter bug, caught up in the front prop of the fizzer or link up with the rear trebble.

I was going to down size the hooks but am worried this will mean more missed hits/hookups.

any comments.

G'Day mate,

Some surface lures are particularly prone to this problem. What I usually do is downsize the split ring and hook by 1 size (on the front one) and leave the back one set up as is. This usually fixes the problem for me

I have not noticed a increase in missed hookups or lost fish ... it's a lottery at the best of times!

I think that a down size in trebbles is your best opition, as you said you might find the hookups are not as often but it sure will stop you having to muck around unhooking them off your lure.

Change to a shorter shanked treble in the same size

very interesting solutions. i've has the same troubles. thinking downsizing that front hook is a good one.
