Kingfish: Livie Under The Float

hey mate

Yes you can whack a yakka under a float. If your fishing in close quarter with other anglers use the float but if your fishing with no one else there of course you can use a balloon. BUT using a balloon with a yakka will kill the yakka fairly quickly as the fish is struggling against the balloon, normally you'll use a balloon with a large slimey or frigate mackerel for marlin.

The rig is basically swivel, float then hook. Use about 1 and a half to 2 meters of leader. you can use a little bit of weight to get some distance.

cheers

Steve

Thanks guys. I forgot to mention - fishing from the boat. Is there any sense in doing that - vs. conventional livebaiting?

You can drift your bait out to get it further away from your boat/away from other traffic or closer to a marker/structure

i find ballons are hard to cast try using a torpedo float 1.2m off 80lb seaguar with 2 gamakatsu hooks tied to a crane swivel then a 60cm piece of 50lb line thread the torpedo float here so its running then another swivel and finally tied to the main line Can cast heaps far without a sinker and again not too good with yakka's slimeys or small frigates and squid would be preferred

Cheers A.dawg~~~
