Installing A Deck Wash Pump - Advice & Help Needed

Hi Everyone

I need some advice and help regarding installation and set up ideas for a deck wash pump that I already have.

post-829-1232064808_thumb.jpg

I want to have a system set up with the necessary fittings and hardware so that I can use it as a deck wash pump with the trigger type nozzle (not supplied with pump among other things), a flow regulated bait tank pump with an adjustable shut off tap fitted on the inside of the livie tank and also to provide a permanent flowing waterfall effect at the stern of my boat which attracts fish in general to the burley source and also keeps them coming in close to the boat around the flowing water.

We used to have a built in pump system to create a permanant burley flow coming out of the stern of the fishing boats, an old way of using burley and leaving the flow permantly going when mustering up fish, holding them in a confined area and they kept on coming in and staying around the waterfall area.

There would be several fittings that I would need to get hold of such as hoses, a water distributor fitting to run three or four separate hoses out the back of my boat, coming of a main outlet hose and also a flow adjuster/ shut off tap on the inside of my live bait tank. The pump came with 3 nozzle type fittings and a screener filter of some sort and nothing else...... There would be probably be other small fittings and hardware needed that I'm not familiar with for this type of multi use job. Perhaps our pump and live bait tank specialists might be able to advise.

Any advice and suggestions from our members would be very much appreciated and I'm happy to answer questions about how to best use the old Mediterranean commercial idea of having a flowing waterfall effect at the back of your boat to attract fish to an area such as the sides of alcoves between two points etc.

I'm wondering if there might be a member out there who is experienced with fitting deck wash pumps and live bait tanks etc who may have a bit of time on their hands to help out as it's not the sort of job that one would take to their boat to a work shop to do.

Thanks

Cheers

Thanks a lot Geoff. I like that professional looking set up of yours, very neat mate!

Geoff did you do all the installation work yourself ? ........I appreciate your invite to come over to Berala and if it's ok, I could bring the boat along and take a look at your set up and see what parts etc are needed - My boat is a 15 1/2 foot alloy Savage side console.

I am having a second live bait tank 600 x350 x300 deep approx shell only made up shortly in two pac s/steel and moving the smaller bait tank further along the stern gunnel to keep the nippers and squid separate and also use it as a bait box ...... It seems that live bait tank has a faulty Whale inline pump that is connected between the L shaped water pick up and the intake hose outside the stern, so could either replace it with another Whale in line pump or work that live well off a pump similiar to yours off the over flow of the new live bait tank? ... that might be an option rather than using the deck wash/water flow pump as a live bait tank pump.

Are you retired yourself and do you have time to do some installation work? I am awaiting surgery for a back problem and can't do much other than do most of what I need to do when I go out fishing :D

Cheers

The origional instalation was done by the dealer but I have since made modifications , eg baitboard along with lots of other mods to the boat
