rooster
As I put my hand through the side wall of my sun brittled livey tank I was thinking I must re-do my winch cable at some stage. All of a sudden I found myself with 2 hours free time so I cut back the rust and primed the trailer and then ripped off the top of the motor to give it a clean up and discovered . . rusty nuts. I got stuck into my nuts with a wire brush and was wondering is the best approach to clean and paint (is there a specific paint used on marine engines for heat and corrosion prevention - can you jimmy a tin of bathroom enamel) or will clean , kill rust and grease prevent further dammage, I prefer not to remove bolts going into the block, will the thread not exposed to air be RS. ? They will last until I have time to replace in the summer There is also some patches of corrosion which clean up easy, is there a product used on the alloy before painting or any household product that will do the job? The nearest marine shop or mechanic is miles away and I don't have time to piss about at the moment Don't know if this makes sense. Thank you The Rooster . . . CamB
Rooster, There is a product called Rust Converter. It eats away the rust and brings it backt o bare metal ready for priming. Should be able to purchase it from any shop that sells paint. Cameron
