Middle Harbour Mystery Fish

Can anyone tell me what type of fish this is and whether it is edible? My son caught this today around little Manly and it had really big teeth which made it difficult to remove the hook . Being a regular to the Hawkesbury and exploring a different waterways today, we haven't seen this one before . Thanks & Cheers Marg

Im no expert but it looks like being part of the Wrasse / parrot fish family and yes it would be edible.

Best way to eat would be to gut it , scale it lay it on foil, fill its body cavity with herbs tomato onion garlic, then wrap it up in the foil and bake in the oven.

I think it may be some srt of "wrasse".... But, Im sure someone will know for sure..

Definitely a Wrasse. There are lots of species and it's a bit hard to tell from that photo but I'd guess it's possibly a female Crimson Banded Wrasse.
