jewiehaven
Went out with Nathaniel for my first rock hopping in about 20+ years. I got to Whale Beach and started heading around the headland past the rock pool. Got to a spot and it looked OK but was fairly snaggy Got some good hits on both pillies and yakka strips, but want getting anything close to hooking up. After both nath and I re-rigged a couple of times I eventually got the first fish of the day- a little Rock Cod With hopes high and the tide faling we persisted but only got more pickers. A few guys walking back from The Ovens told us they were on to Trevs and Sambo's and they told us the schools were pretty thick- Gotta say we were very tempted to move around there but it was nearly 5pm by this time and sun was setting and I think we would have missed the bite anyways even if we did go there and try. We stayed until all the bait was gone (time for another bait run this week), then left and came home to nice fresh Pizza and Beer on the table coutesy of the missus A splendid arvo with a good buddy after a long week working. VietGod
Haven't been to the Ovens for years!!! Does anyone know if you can still abseil down? Last time I went some locals filed down the rope anchor... I saw some massive kingies and tuna caught off their on live bait. Cheers, VG.
