fishmaniac Posted October 6, 2009 Share Posted October 6, 2009 I've fished port augusta and seen the kings on the chew like that. It was only for a matter of about 20 seconds did they break the surface in that fashion. Managed 1 king at 120cm for 6 days straight fishing (1 of only 2 fish landed the entire week out of an average of 8 boats fishing per day) I have to say is that the surface activity you see is incredible, but hookups are very rare. These fish are smart as many people are chasing them day in - day out. Getting a big king there to take a perfectly presented 1kg calamari or salmon is hard enough. I have mates who have fished the area a lot who have had a hit on lures in probably one out of 30 days fishing on cumulative trips. But in saying so, these strikes are savage, one mate had a lure belted 20ft by a king (no hookup though!)
