just wondering whether there is any restrictions placed on recreationally collecting cockles from beaches in sydney area? for example, taren point area or water near captain cook bridge?

if there is any, what exactly is the restriction?

if there is no specific prohibition, does that mean anyone with a fishing license is allowed to take home up to 50 cockles?

ps.

apart from cooking in salted water and using seafood sauce, any other ways to eat cockles?

and any pollution issues with cockles in sydney area?

it's okay to take, but you run the risk of food poisoning if you eat it, that's all really. yes bag limit is 50. (Food poisoning is really rare, and it's due to toxins it filters out).

The Georges river is quite polluted, and since they are filter feeders, it's best to avoid collecting them after heavy rainfall.

If you're afraid of food poisoning, just don't eat too many cockles at one time, allow several day gap before eating them again. Give your liver some time to detox the toxins (just a precaution in case they are present).

Best and safest way I have found to eat them is open them up, discard the shell, put a hook through them and turn them into bream.

Yeah cockles are great bait, 50 is correct, but you should check if they are within restricted zones.

I have never eaten them either, I like Dave's way, turn them into fish..
