Is it worth it? That would depend on what you want from it. No doubt a good combo & I honesly don't know about the value but my thought is unless it is really what you are looking for it's not. I can tell you that if it's not what you want you won't use it so it deffinitely isn't a good buy. For that sort of price I'm sure you can pick up a pretty good combo. Say a nice Penn Spinnfisher rod & reel set up in the size that you want. You should check with Gofish as I'm sure Pete will do a good deal on something for you. Just remember spend what you can afford & get the most suitable outfit for your chosen purpose.

If it doesnt say the model off the ugly stik i wouldnt touch it.... Some scammers put a good reel and a Crudddy rod together and sell it as a combo... The reel might be worth a fair bit but the rod is worth nothing...

You need to find out the model off the rod and if its any good

I was searching around the internet and found this deal.

Shimano Stradic Fishing Reel 6000 FI with 8 2 piece Ugly Stick Fishing Rod(6-10kg).

Total for $369.

Can anyone shed some light on this setup? Is this setup worth the money I'm dying for an upgrade and this is what I can afford.

What would be the cheapest option? buy them separately or get it as a combo? 6000 is a bit large for my liking, IF I was to buy it separately I would get 4000 or 5000.

Cheers

depending on what model Ugly stik, but unlikely to be a good deal.

Im looking at a Stradic 8000 from overseas and you can pick them up for around $200.

Also 6000 model is pretty big. I would be looking at 4000 or 5000 for a 6-10kg rod.

I just purchased a Shimano Stradic 6000 FI reel for under $200. Probably will spool it with 30-50lb braid (haven't decided which one yet).

Does anybody have any recommendations on what rod I should get for this? I'm mostly going to be targeting kings, jews etc on this rod. Mostly landbased, but occasionally will head out on boat. So I'm pretty much after a multi-purpose rod which can handle both these fishing types (I cannot afford to buy two separate rods). What rod length and line class would be best suited for these fishing conditions?

You can suggest a specific rod, as long as the price range is under $130 lol...

Cheers

Hmm thats a tough one, i usually have two different rods for LB and boat. When Landbased (i.e. Rock/Wharf), i don't go under 11 foot (Penn Spinfisher). For Rock, i use my 12'' Ugly Stik Gold series.

As for Boat, i would go for something around 8foot Max. There's this Penn Boat rod i saw which was quite cheap and came bundled up with a Penn fisher SSM reels (all series).

But yeah, i would get a separate rod for Boat/LB occasions

my 2 cents..

Cheers

Well in between 8 foot and 11 foot.

Would you think a 9 foot would be great for both fishing locations?

O yeah forgot to mention, it's gotta be a 2piece.

Hi Zephi,

Congrats on your Stradic by the sound of thing you got a bargin!! I am sure you will land plenty of fish on it.

I don't think a 9 foot rod on a boat would be wise if you are targeting king and out hard running fish you will find the long rod will work against you as the fish will be able to gain leverage against you, even an 8foot rod is probably a little too long for the boat. There are people who use 8foot+ rods on a boat but you will find them to be specialist fishos who are targeting red or other fish with finness where they require long cast distance with plastics and the like.

If your only going to be fishing on a boat once in a blue moon why not get the landbased rod first and save for boat rod later on, that way you will get the most enjoyment out of the rod/s in both situations. For land based i nomally use a 10foot and 12 foot rod. While on the boat try go for something under 7foot. For king on the boat i mainly use jigging rod whese most comes in under 6 foot and a lighter 7foot for tossing lures and float bait.

thanks for all your replies

>SZ1. yeah definitely a bargain (comes with warranty too).

I'm currently using a 7'6 rod for both landbased (wharf) and for boating occasionally... Nothing special. Shimano 762 Snapper ET series rod. It's done me well and I haven't had much to complain about it.

The length isn't too long for boat and isn't too short for land based imo. I've been using that rod for so long, so I guess I just became accustomed to it.

I was the same before mate.... Having a 10-12foot rod gives you better clearance from the rock ledge. Depending where i go, sometimes it feels that a 12 foot rod isn't even big enough  .

I've gone through stages where i've gone through a 10, 11, 12 and my newest acquisition 13 foot rod for LB Rock/Wharf Fishing. Regardless where i go, i always bring my trusty 8 foot rod to catch the livies. So i usually take a minimum of 2 rods with me :1fishing1:
