  1. Thanks for the responses guys. Yes I realise beaches change day to day & I’ll definitely have a better idea when I can fish most days. With a 5 minute walk to Narrawallee I’m sure I’ll get to know it intimately.. lol
  2. I’m looking for some advice. Shortly I’ll be moving from Sydney to the Sth Coast. I’ll be a 5 minute walk to Narrawallee beach & although in the past I’ve had some reasonable fishing sessions there I’m wondering are there better beaches in the area or what are peoples favourite beach fishing locations on the Sth Coast? Stricko
  3. Honestly don't know mate. My suggestion is try the standard mix & see how you go. Then if you're not completely happy with them give them a call to see what they can do for you
  4. Another vote for the ET Seasickness CAPSULES (not pills) from Bova at Caringbah. My brother & a good mate are 100% converts. Another advantage (as ET used to advertise) is if you have problems with them to contact Bova and let them know & they will adjust the mix to suit your particular requirements, keeping your "mix" on record for your next order.
  5. Thanks Dave, We've thought of that but weren't planning to have to take a stack of gear as the guys we've booked with provide all gear. Taking our own may end up our only option tho Stricko
  6. No one can help me with this?
  7. Yes I should have mentioned that Donna. Thanks
  8. Hey guys. I'm looking for some help. 4 of us are fishing DARWIN in early July. We're reef fishing with a good operator for 2 days but would like to chase pelagics on a smaller boat than theirs which fishes 12. Ideally we're looking to fish Darwin harbour chasing surface action for a day or 1/2 day. Does anyone know a good operator that can handle 4 guys casting metals to plastics? Stricko
  9. A lovely part of the world. I've stayed in the town a couple of times on the way to the Snowy Ride which is a fund raising bike ride at Thredbo. I have to say the golf club has a great deck to relax on after a long days ride & the food there is great as well
  10. Rats are always GREAT fun on bream gear.
  11. The statement I've heard untold number of times has always been... "you should have been here yesterday...." but now it's "you should have been here 40 years ago......." We must be getting old
  12. Hi Jim, No I'm a recent convert to the Clifton Wharf. Only been going for 15 years or so. hahaha Kingys
  13. It may refer to the swimming area though which has always beena no fishing zone
  14. Hi jim, Many species mush easier to chase even in winter than Dory at Clifton. But yes I know they are there & I've chased them with a number of different rigs over the years usually with live yakka. I've hooked more big flathead & flounder than anything else even picked up a few hairtail. But no luck with Dory as yet. Kingys
  15. Fished Clifton thousands of times & never seen a JD caught there. Just about everything else but though
  16. Hi Witha, I have a sol 3000 and a Caldia 3000 & prefer the sol but that's just me. I run these on a pair of Nitro rods. One is a 7'6" 4-6kg Magnum Butt & the other is a 7' 6-8kg Viper & both are magnificent set ups for chasing anything from bonito to big kingys & jews.. Neither has ever let me down. If you wanted something lighter than the Viper but shorterthan the Mag Butt there is always the 7' Baby Viper rated at 3-6kg Kingys
  17. Not wanting to break any Raider rules I have to say the guys who ran the charter were fantastic & knew how to put us onto some great fish day after day. In fact the forst dayout we were back at the marina 3 hours early as we'd bagged out on Jewies. Everyone caught their limit & the ice box was chocka with fillets.I can recomend them to anyone going up after some fish.
  18. Hi Raider, Spent 3 days fishing he reefs just outside Darwin Harbour a week ago & it was my first time fishing tropical waters & it certainly won't be my last. Went up there with a mate Mike & his brother Nick & we all got into some good fish. Here are some pics Kingys. btw the black jew pictured here measured 133cm & weighed 14.9kg
  19. G'day locodave, If you choose spin I'd recomend braid for sure. A 4-6000 sized spin reel loaded with a stiffer line like Fireline in 12 to 15lb. Choose a nice bright fluro colour that's easy to see. Advantages are a thinner line than mono that casts a mile & is less affected by wind & wave action. You will wonder why you ever considered mono. Kings
  20. Hi Mate, The set up for plastics or hard bodies is really simple. Braid to about a rods length of preferably fluro leader. Knots as mentioned double uni is really nice & easy though. Then lure to leader with either loop knot or uni. This applies to both rod/reel combos only the braid/leader weight will change. The reason for fluro with this is stealth. Hopefully the fish don't see the line. Also some fish have pretty sharp teeth so abrassion resistance is another factor. For bait fishig again same set up for both. Sinker on main line (braid) to swivel. I always put a little bead between the sinker & the swivel to keep the sinker off the knot. Then a length of leader, mono or fluro, length depending on tide/current etc from swivel to hook of choice. I personally only use fluro leader but thats my choice. Check with your local tackle shop guys for a recomendation for brands based on your requirements for targeted fish/cost/knot strength etc. Remember to check your line & leader regularly for abrassion & replace as requires. Last Friday I lost a stonker of a trevalley because I was too lazy to replace a freyed leader. Paul
  21. Hi Sauce Head, Welcome Both are very workable combo's perfect for what you want to do. Depending on the weight class on the Trion I'd be opting for 6lb braid on it if you're going to use it for flicking plastics in the bay targeting bream, trevalley, whiting etc. Light leader of similar weight upping it to maybe 14-20lb when tageting flatties On the Catana & Sienna I'd maybe go for 10lb braid as a heavier option. In my experience 10lb braid will allow you to boat just about anything you come accross in the bay 99% of the time. With this you can even up your leader a bit more & taget salmon, tailor & even kingys Good luck, Paul
