0 taloyoak Posted January 23, 2010 Posted January 23, 2010 Yep good old sawtail Surgeon- great on light gear and pull like crazy. A good addition to the post about using them as Sashimi
0 Krispy ! Posted January 23, 2010 Posted January 23, 2010 Yep, Sawtail Surgeonfish mmmmmmmmmmmmm are they great eating. thats a smaller fish compared to some of the ones you get in the harbour. cheers,
0 gretsch Posted January 25, 2010 Posted January 25, 2010 (edited) The big ones pull harder than a King of equal length. I liken them to Trevally . I caught these 55cm plus Surgeons from the Harbour last year on weed. They weren't so good to eat at this size. The little ones are better....less weedy!! Edited January 25, 2010 by Cephalopod
0 snag Posted January 26, 2010 Posted January 26, 2010 Think from memory no no no had a DVD out where they caught Surgeon fish at manly aquarium. If im not mistacken you need to keep your fingers away from those point at the back of the body.
0 gretsch Posted January 26, 2010 Posted January 26, 2010 (edited) Those tail scoots are not sharp. They are like a guitar pick hanging out the side. That said, if you tail grabbed one and it went crazy, they might draw blood!! They are everywhere in the Harbour. I see them all the time when squidding. Edited January 26, 2010 by Cephalopod
