Which 2 Piece Rod For Bream Luring?

Hi raiders, which 2 piece rod would you choose for landbased topwater, soft plastics, and light metals?

  • Berkley Dropshot Gen 3
    6'10" 2-4kg 2 piece
  • Pflueger Trion Tournament
    7'2" 2-5kg 2 piece
  • Shimano Rack Raider
    7'6" 2-4kg 2 piece
  • Shimano Rack Raider
    6'8" 2-5kg 2 piece
  • Shimano Starlo Stix
    7'10" 2-5kg 2 piece

Any reviews? Heard that the Rack raiders were abit "stiff" not sure what that was in regard to and whether that makes them less appealing than the other rods.

All of the rods would serve you well, so the decision will purely be personal. Process of elimination for me:

Must be a minimum of 7ft - delete dropshot and rack raider

Needs to be light enough for me to use all day, making a truck load of casts - delete other two raiders

'Bang-for-your-buck' - both the Starlo Stix and the Trion have good components considering the price

I own a couple of Pfleugers (including the Trion Tournament) and am very pleased with their performance. Based solely on that (and being unable to offer an informed opinion on the Starlo Stix) I would purchase the Pfleuger. Happy shopping!

Cheers

Sounds like the trion is the go then. The reason I didn't purchase it in the first place was because the guy in the tackle shop said he liked the trions but not the trion tournaments, said they felt less solid. Then as i was still contemplating the purchase, some1 brought in a snapped trion tournament wanting an exchange

So yeh i went with the Gladi ator spin rod. It seems like a fairly good rod the few times i have used it but the ferrule comes loose every few casts which is why i am going back to the shop to exchange it.

i got the trion tournament bream specialist.7.2ft,2-5kg.i really like it,good for casting light/medium weighted plastics, hardbodys & small metals.[i use up to 10gm metals on it].very light & sensitive & i cant fault it.especially now that i landed a 7kg jew on it on wendsday. :biggrin2: .I LOVE IT!!!!

Had a look and feel of the Starlo Stix pro 7'10" 2-5kg and also the trion tournament, both feel good. The starlo stix is longer and thus whippier in the tip, could help with casting distance but does anyone have any first hand experience with the rod?

Bugger the trion tournament .. get the normal trion :) Spilt grip 2-4kg 7ft 2 peice trust me you can go wrong :)

Didn't know and couldn't find any normal trions in 2-4kg range with 2 piece which was why i was looking at the trion tournament.

I'll add my vote for the Trion Tournament.

I've had one for around 6 months and love it. I paired mine with a Stradic ci4 2500 and 6lb fireline and it's an EXTREMELY versitile combo. It can flick a featherweigh lure a mile, but it's got plenty of grunt when it counts. Lately my favourite thing for giggles is to use it to feed squid strips to rat kingies. :biggrin2: Not what I bought it for nor what it was designed for but it sure is fun!

The Trion is a delight to use for all applications!

Seems like the Trion has received glowing reviews all round.... makes me wonder why I just stumped up the cash for a one piece Berkley Dropshot Diablo for exactly this sort of fishing!

Cheers,

Adam - this may or may not be my first post here, I've been lurking for a little while now. :biggrin2:
