G'day fishraiders

Bit of a late report.

Did the Swansea channel/Lake Maq thing last weekend starting Mid Fri with really high hopes.

4 guys, 3 on the boat and one rotating off each session.

Planned for Morn sess, break, arvo sess, break, and night time sessions.

Ominuss begininings :mad3::mad3:

First glitch the "Senior Sargent" reported in at 9.30 Fri and said Wifey sick must take care of kids.

Oh well no probs there suck eggs SS.

Headed up to Lake Maq Fri lunch with a southerly blowing and worried looks on our faces. But hey we can cope with this we know the Lake. A few spots of rain. UUUmmmm. Bit more woriied.

Booked into cabin launched boat and headed out.

HOLEY HELL :ranting2:

Absolutely blowing a gale, and the wind against the tide to boot, boat all over the shop. First Session absolute Nudda. Really difficult conditions. Then realised all I had spooled was braid and it was just out of control in the wind everywhere.

Back to camp dubbed, Spot xxxx, for obvious reasons. Cooked dinner ready to go out for the prized night session and yes it poured. Now I am not a wimp but a howling southerly with rain meant spot xxxx was the go for the night. Bugger.

Saturdays plan was Flatty session first 2 hours of the run in then chase kingies till lunch.

Wind and the tide again meant the boat was all over the shop and we could not hold position at the drop off.

Worked really hard to maintain position however a 1/4 cab with canopy and rocket launcher had us sailing past everything at Autralia 2 speed.

What was really good was a BBB boat came up to our exact spot, put the electric down maintained exact position perfectly on the drop off and proceeded to catch 8 flatties in about 30mins on SP's, obviously really good fisho's who new exactly what they were doing.

We were very envious but a spcialist fishing platform like that does not come cheap.

WE got 2 flatties 6 brimbos 3 reddies nothing big just keepers. Chased kingies then and not even a sniff.

Lunch. Then Specified plan Pulbah mussel beds and crab traps. Again the winds and tide fought against us, couple of breambo,s only justa's, and all returned. One crab definately not returned.

Returned to the drop off and channel again, started pouring big time still blowing a gale. Dropped Pots at different spot and hunkered down to weather it out. 5.00pm came and back to spot xxxx. Mind you the bonus was 6 crabs and 2 fantails in the pots Woo Hoo Waited had dinner and then really really began to pour, like all night. Exit 2nd night fish. See Dan BUBBA Frost report in lure section, it was really bad.

Sunday. Woke to rain and only slight wind, ummmm well we were here so give it a go till lunchtime. Boat was left on shore and thank god for the bilge pump. Boat Was absolutely full took 10 full minutes to empty.

Back to the Channel and drop off. Wind died sun came out and was absolutely beatiful. Then managed a really good session for 2 hours 6 breambo's 4 reddies 2 flounder and 4 flatties and another 4 crabs. Lunchtime we were all stuffed, time to head back.

All in all one of the hardest weekends fishing we have had for a long time. Add up 3 guys for 2 full days fishing and really wasn't much return. Strange thing was about a 1/4 of the brimbo's all had doctors attached to the tail area. Has any other Lake Mac guys noticed the same.

No photo's as all fish were not remarkable. Did get a good shot of a Pelican doing a really strange thing and will post that in the photo,s section later.

Great to finally get to post again.

Cheers

Trapper Tom.
