We started at about 6, we went over to the oil wharf resulting in a few small snapper. We then moved out a bit futher inbetween the heads with no luck. Then went back to the caltex terminal with no result. Then went dolls point which produced a small flathead, by this stage it was about 12. On the way back to the foreshore boatramp i stopped again at the runway for a bit which didnt produce anything. I was fishing with prawns and squid. Where have all the fish gone? jim tran Posted April 20, 2010 Share Posted April 20, 2010 Hi Kosta1, we went out on last Sat, it's a little quiet than previous trips but we still managed a few including a kingy, 6 bonnies and a large trevally all on pilly. Bentstik Posted April 20, 2010 Share Posted April 20, 2010 The bay has still been alright, went out last Thursday, in the water at 6.00 and straight down to Towra until the top off the tide which was 8.30. Scored 8 bream to 38cm and a 60cm flathead. Moved to the front of the old runway and scored another 8 bream to 35cm and got plenty of throw backs around the 20 to 23cm mark using prawns and nippers. jewgaffer Posted April 20, 2010 Share Posted April 20, 2010 Hi Kosta 1 I think if you would have had the time available to start off late this afternoon and fish on into the night instead of going out this morning I think that might have made a big difference to your general results today .... In the middle of the afternoon today you could actually feel the difference in the outside air which really was and still is quite balmy particulary for anyone considering fishing the run in tide in the shallows tonight from six thirty onwards and then fishing the run out tide with big baits either alongside the green marker off molineaux or cast a couple of big baits in the channel just out from the third runway... Cheers jewgaffer Where is molineaux in the bay. Someone told me today that the reason for not many strikes was because i was using 20 pound line with a size 1 sinker. He reckons that i use 6 pound at the maxium. I had two set up for the surface, and 2 for down low with all 20 pound line and leader. Just wondering what are your thoughts? I have been fishing off rocks and wharfs for adges but i only recently bought a boat so the boat seen is all new for me. bluebottle18 Posted April 21, 2010 Share Posted April 21, 2010 KOSTA Start fishing with 3+4 kilo line with 0 size sinkers,anchoring and burlying. Yeah it might be hard at first but persevere.Nippers are the gun bait in my opinion. You will still catch plenty of throw backs but you have increased your chances of a good catch. If drifting you of course need a heavier sinker. a variety of baits can then be used. Your choice as I dont believe in telling fishos what bait to use drifting. I think its a personal thing and most common baits work. You will find after fishing the bay on a regular basis your catch will improve and you will have your favourite spots and own method to fish them. Angelvic Posted April 22, 2010 Share Posted April 22, 2010 Hi mate , I went out last Friday, high tide was 9:30 am. Started fishing 6am at middle ground. The secret is berley, yabbies and fresh prawns , not frozen. A bean sinker size 2, 1mt fluro carbon 8lb,size 4 hook and 6lb main line. Stop fishing at 11am for 5 snappers at 33cm, 6 bream to 35 cm , 4 trev to 30cm and 1 founder 40cm. that was a normal outing , some times it's double that. Move around 50 mts in the area if you don't get fish in 30 minutes. Keep the burley going, it's the most important factor of the equation. TRUST ME. Good luck and Tight Lines. Trapper Tom Posted April 22, 2010 Share Posted April 22, 2010 G'Day Kosta 1. Read Jewgaffers report!! 2. When fishing for brimbo's in the Bay I always use a min 6 foot leader and only 6 pound line. Considered critical. Lead to suit the tidal run, but as little as possible. 3. Do not ever discount the use of chicken guts in the bay they absolutely love it.
