the one that got away
I love catching Flattys. But i want to buy a new combo specifically for catching flathead, mostly medium sized up to the huge 1m+ crocs. But im not really sure what to buy? My budget is around $200 for a rod and reel and braid. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Cheers, Zac

slayer666
All you need is a 2500 reel a light to medium rod and 8-10lb braid with 12lb fluro carbon. PM'd you a link with a bit of info on reels and rods. Hope this helps Cheers Joe
cja12005
All you need on that sort of budget champ is; a 2-4kg spinning rod i.e. Pfleuger Trion etc a reasonable 1000 to 2500 reel Diawa regal etc 2lb micro-fuse braid (don't worry ... the light stuff's breaking strain is much higher than stated on the pack and it casts a mile) fluorocarbon leader 6 - 8 lb 3" berkley dropshot minnows (any color) and some 1/8 jig heads size 1 Target the shallows were there is plenty of broken patchy ground on a run out tide and you are bound to come across some fair sized specimens. Good luck, Cheers
