0 Day's Fishin
Sorry don't agree on spangled emperor. I have caught these fish on numerous occasions and released them as I'm not 100% sure about them. All the ones I've landed and seen landed were in the 500g's size.
Spangled emperors have pale blue spots over the upper body.
Blue lines radiate from the eyes over the snout.
Tops of pectoral fins are blue.
Large eyes.
Top lip & inside the mouth are bright orange.
Fins are pale yellow on the trailing edges with splotches of light blue.
The picture of this fish shows some close signs of these characteristics but not all.
Slinky could probably tell us if it is or not as they are often caught up his way?
Regards Jeff Edited October 27, 2010 by Day's Fishin
0 Yowie
Cannot find it in my fish books. Has a body shape similar to an emperor, but is probably something else. Yowie.
0 CamB
Dragged out the old Grant's Guide to Fishes and looks like an emperor. Cameron
0 zephi
I had been leaning towards spangled emperor as well. But as Day's Fishing says, the colours are unlike the spangled emperor. The fins, eyes and mouth resemble it though. Do we get spangled emperors down in the Hacking though?
0 slinkymalinky
A hard one to pick but if I had to put money on it, I'd call it for a juvenile Grass Sweetlip (Emperor). Cheers, Slinky
0 Day's Fishin
It does look like a tricky snapper "grass sweetlip emperor" but the location where it was caught puts me off. Their more up north and are usually caught in warmer water. Regards Jeff
