How Big Do Kingies Get In Botany Bay ?

Hi Raiders

Just calling out to see what the largest Kingy anyone has caught / seen in Botany Bay.

The reason i ask is that the biggest one i have ever caught in Botany is 85cm and was wondering if there is anything bigger out there in the bay...

Have not seen any posts of really big kings being caught in the bay unlike Sydney Harbour where it seems 90cm+ fish is common enough

All the legal kings i have caught were with livies at the 3rd runway or molli point... the oil wharf seems to hold rats only - anywhere else i can try for upcoming king season?

I only have a 4m tinny so cant venture out too far.

thanks!

Hey Trung

They get a LOT bigger than the ones that you have found so far. Have a look at these 4 reports from Dogtooth from a couple of years ago... He caught them all well inside the bay.

As you will see he mentions you need some HEAVY gear to have a chance against fish of this calibre. 80lb braid minimum and 100lb +++ leader. There have been a number of reports of people seeing fish estimated as over 20kg in Sydney harbour. I am sure there are plenty of a similar size in and around botany bay.

Don't be afraid to put down a really big livebait - a big fish will inhale it!

Good luck.

The oil wharf doesnt just hold rats,

this is my mate Bill and a King in the mid 90s from there, we have seen

and lost bigger ones all on light gear. Seen a few big ones in

other spots as well.

Cheers

thanks for the info/post Jim

i have just dusted off my trusty old Penn 850 spinnfisher outfits and loaded it with 50lb braid... just need to find some 30cm yakkas now to lob them out!
